Yamaha F90 Stalled After Trim and Won't Start Again

After a long winter, I started my F90 using a portable jump starter. It started up normally (within 4-5 cranks) and it ran smoothly. After about 30 seconds of the engine running I pushed the trim button to trim the motor up slightly but the engine suddenly stalled, and I have been unable to restart the engine since. It cranks, but it does not sound like it is getting fuel or spark.

I will try to test for fuel and spark, but also want to ask the forum if it makes any sense that the engine would die and not start up again by attempting to trim it up from a dead battery? And did I break something as a result? The fuel is treated but old, so wondering if the injectors suddenly got clogged... all fuses are ok.

Thanks in advance for any help or opinions.

I'm pretty confident that your issue is a result of inducing a load on the electrical system by actuating the trim motor with a dead battery.

Disconnect the battery from the outboard and leave it unhooked for a day or two and then try again with the battery fully charged.

If it doesn't work I would guess that something got tweaked in the computer or rectifier circuitry as a result. Check fuse and kill switch as well.

The manufacturer states to never disconnect the battery while engine is running. As I understand, your jump start kit was basically "the battery".

Thanks Agent37 - I've got the battery charged and will try it this weekend. The fuses all checked out ok and I also tried the kill switch in various positions. Fortunately, the portable jump starter was still on when I hit the trim/tilt button... so must have more to do with the sudden induced load. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Look for a corroded ground terminal on the motor. Does the trim still work? Are you around salt water? FRED
