We were fighting a gale on the albemarle sound running the motor... had a bit of sail out so we were heeled over a bit.. went to ease back on the the throttle and the motor cut out completely... decided we didnt really need it so we carried on for a few hours until we came to the alligator river.. when we tried to start it up again it wouldnt go.. its an eighties model yamaha 9.9 electric start ran great for three days with no problems really except maybe that it cut off a couple of times when we idled it back down after hours of running... checked the spark plugs... had spark checked the fuel lines... had fuel... don't really know what else to check... fresh fuel... spitting water good. any ideas?

Have you checked the oil level?
Also, if your oil filter is clogged, the motor won't run properly.
Oil filter is part of the oil drain plug assembly if you didn't know ;)
