Hi all!

I bought a Sailboat this week, a Dehler Sprinta. It came with a Yamaha Engine (Year around '90), 9.9hp 4 stroke with electrical start. The owner told me there was frost damage with the engine, the upper case is severely cracked on the backside. I have been reading about salt crystal buildup in this topic;

https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...ki-outboards/479770-9-9-yamaha-case-corrosion

This is all I could find online about the subject, I couldn't find anything related to frost damage with a crack like this. Would this be fixable with JB weld? Or is it important enough to replace the whole casing. I have been looking for this part, this engine (and parts) seems to be rather scarce compared to it's newer brother.

I will add some pictures, I'm very curious about your thoughts on how something like this came about and possible ways to fix it and get going again :). I haven't tried starting it yet, not sure if that's a good idea in this stage.

Help is very much appreciated!

this can be welded by alumninium welding method, or just replace this part.
it very common outboard.
welding is better and cheaper. first drain motor oil
