Yamaha 9.9 2 stroke wont run

I took the metal leaf plates out of the fuel pump and re assembled pump. Now when I pull it over fuel pulses out of fuel pump nipple with hose removed. I was able to start engine and run for a while like this.
any suggestions?

You are overthinking and testing the fuel pump too much, the inside of the fuel pump is simple, if the pump was meant to work without the leaf plates the manufacturer would have designed it that way. Was the test done while the motor was runing in a barrel, muffs or powering your boat ? If the issues continues, better buy a new fuel pump, are not that costly..

Hi. Test was done running on muffs. Ran perfectly with fuel pump taken apart until it would use the fuel in the carb and then I would re prime the fuel system manually. I will try a new pump and post results. Stay tuned
