Good morning all

I recently changed the water pump impeller on my motor, after putting the foot back on, the motor doesn't fully go into neutral. If you spin the propeller by hand you hear a clicking noise and when the motor runs you can hear the slight clicking also. Does anyone have any tips on fixing this?

Edit**** I forgot to put that it is a 1993 2-stroke

If not mistaken both rod's ends which should be threaded are held in place and adjsted by means of 2 nuts which rests and secures themselves against the metal joiner which can be seen towards the upper portion of the lower leg.

When removing the upper shift rod from the lower one to change the impeller were both rods assembled and adjusted back as were factory delivered ? If not probably there's a misaligment bewteen both rods. If assembled properly shoud have no issue at all, just Don't Play gearing FNR with motor OFF, must be turned ON for a smooth gearing operation...

WRONG!!! That engine is a rotary shift! The splines are not lined up correctly.

Please refrain from guessing when you are not familiar with the engine in question. You just confuse and mislead the person looking for help.

And it is perfectly fine to shift the engine without running - just make sure you have someone turning the prop while you shift it.

Hey Lakensa, what didn't you understand about If not Mistaken means. The OP must have checked that out by himself, bothers me that you took the liberty to complain in his behalf in a non polite manner, go find yourself....

I tend to agree with Lake, why post about a motor you do not know about and then come back to bash someone that points out you were wrong.

you should have posted back that you were sorry you stated something wrong to the OP on how his motor operates and will try harder to make sure from now on

Of course old gossip, the OP has not complained, been confused or misleaded in any way regarding my post. Hope the OP has finally resolved his tech issue...

Have you ever done that? I don't think I would be so quick to jump on that band wagon If I was you. STOP acting like the YAMAHA forum is your personal playground!!!!!

admit it you were wrong about his linkage, that is misleading.
maybe he knew you were wrong and knew the rods were not threaded, and did not feel like calling you out on not knowing what you were talking about,

But it could confuse others when looking for help

And yet you keep talking. You do realize that some Yamahas use a nut on the shifting rod right??

Yes, I am aware, but having actually worked on outboard engines for 30+ years, I knew that this particular engine did not.
