I have a 1993 (according to model number) 2 stroke Yamaha 4hp. I am trying to figure out why it’s not putting water out through the tell tale (I’ve replaced and rechecked the impeller 3 times). After exhausting my options I’ve decided to remove the powerhead to take a closer look at the passageways.

after removing everything and all the bolts holding the powerhead in I still cannot get the powerhead off. I cannot find any diagrams or resources online. This motor seems to have almost 0 community support. Just getting the impeller from the dealership was a mess.

does anyone know how to pull the powerhead? I’ve attached pictures of model/serial numbers and the current state of the outboard.

I’ve pulled the CDI, carb, gas tank, pull start, everything. I have removed every bolt I can find. Do I need to hit it with the pry bar, or is there a secret bolt I’m missing?

No help on pulling power head, but did you try hooking a water hose to the water pipe heading up to power head from water pump, turning on the water to see if water flows out the tell tale then?
what about removing the stat cover to see if water comes out of there?
If water flows that way ,maybe you just have a plugged TT

Before I replaced the impeller I had some water coming out, but not nearly enough. After replacing I had the same amount, if not less. I then shoved a pipe cleaner as far in the TT as I could and the water flow stopped completely. This is why I suspect an internal passageway is severely blocked. I’m currently inbetween compressors right now. I may bite the bullet and buy a new one to try to really blow it out

If you have removed every single part that attaches the powerhead to the pan, that motor has a stuck, seized drive shaft into the lower crankshaft, the grease that was originally added there at the factory it's alreay stone hard...

follow the path of the TT to see where it goes into the powerhead, and disconnect the hose from there, to clean it out better in both directions.
I am guessing there is a hose making the connection between the two.
