Just got my boat back from repair work... replaced waterpump in my Yahama 250 VX... NOW I HAVE NO REVERSE...
Took it back to the shop and he said he forgot to hook up the linkage at the shift leaver... Took out boat and still no reverse... Question - when he dropped the lower unit, is it possible that he didn't get the linkage right when he put it back together? He say that everything is probably stripped out (his guess, even though he hasn't looked at it @ $95.00 an hour) IReverse was fine until I took it to the shop... Any suggestions?

Re: Yamaha 250 reverse problems

Most shops will check their work by starting the engine to check the pump operations and shifting it in and out of gear. If you have neutral and forward, then more than likely the alignment of the shift shaft is fine. Remove the cowling and look where the shift cable connects to the linkage. In neutral the linkage should be in the center of the slot. Reverse the linkage should be fully aft and of course forward should be fully forward.
What year is this 250? Depending on the year, it could be something else.

It is possible to put it back together and have only two of the three....forward and neutral or reverse and neutral....think about it....would take it somewhere else, that guy sounds cheesy, why didn't he check it after the work? Run away.....
