What was the last year yamaha made a 200hp carburetor motor? I'm looking for a used 1999-2001. So far my understanding is that the Vmax is a HPDI motor and I've seen a saltwater series and SWS2. What's the difference between the last 2. Also are there any disadvantages to going with the carb vs EFI? Sorry for all the questions but I've been searching for my answers all over the web but I've had no luck.

Re: Yamaha 200 questions

A Vmax can be carbureted, two stroke EFI, HPDI or four stroke EFI. Vmax is just a marketing term.

With two stroke EFI there is more computerized control. Easier starts and a bit more fuel efficient. But, more to go wrong. Carburetors are simple and dumb.

Go to Yamaha's website and you can see all of the motors ever offered here in the USA. You can quickly and readily see if it is carbureted, two stroke EFI, HPDI or four stroke. Vmax HPDI's generally start with VZ whereas a four stroke Vmax will start with VF. OX66 two strokes generally start with VX whereas carbureted models will start with V.
