Yamaha 1992 fuel pump

My boat has an eletric fuel pump...not original. The mechanic I spoke with said the pump should be between the filter and carb. Did I misunderstand him? Is not the pump usually located before the filter?

Ayuh,... If before the filter, it'll die alot earlier than if it's after the filter...
Fuel pumps don't like Crud in the fuel, anymore than carbs do...

Being there is no more orginal electric fuel pumps for later built Yamaha's, then another brand pump should be located somewhere on the starboard front of the engine between the fuel filter and the carb.
