Re: Yamaha 150 RPM's

Cleaning carbs on an outboard isn?t that hard, doing it right the first time?. Can be a bit tricky.

The funny thing about working on these motors is that short of a total rebuild anyone who is handy with tools and motors and get through with a good factory service manual and lots of patience.

The hard part and what the real pros get paid for is finding out what is wrong by correctly diagnosing it and fixing that part only.

True it is lots of fun to tinker and swap parts but it is much more expensive. I spent ? a summer tinkering with an old Johnson only to figure out that the problem was a beer got poured / spilled into a bad key switch! But now I know how to diagnose and fix that problem in 1 min.

On E-10 gas? Plenty of opinion out there, but everyone agrees avoid it if you can by fueling at a marina that has no ethanol in the gas, make sure you have a good fuel water separator (raycor ect) and use a stabilizer designed for E-10 gas if you have to store your boat. Best thing you can do for your boat is use it as often as possible. Guys that run their boats every day get 1000?s of hours out of their motors. Motors that sit don?t.

Re: Yamaha 150 RPM's

Got boat back yesterday, shop was backed up for about 3 weeks. They re-built carbs, replaced fuel lines, and replaced fuel/water seperator. Siad there was debris in the carbs, and runs to proper RPM now. I haven't taken it out yet, probably next weekend to confirm that, cost me $375.

Not too bad, when I didn't see a reply.... I was thinking something was really bad...

Now that it is running tip top, you can start playing with the props. What prop was on it when they test ran it? Did you get any idea of how fast it ran? It should pick up a bit of speed hitting on all 6.

Got the boat on the water over the weekend, ran great, no hesitation, RPM'd to mfg. specs. Guess it just needed the carbs cleaned.
Thanks for all the help.

Re: Yamaha 150 RPM's

With me and my son 40mph, 5.5k RPM's. We're usually loaded down though, just came back from the Keys, had 8-9 people, plus tanks and other gear, still ran great, 22mph at 3.5k rpm's, conditions were too rough to go more than that.
