My boat is a 1997 wellcraft 190 ccf with a 20" transom. I want to install a 1999 yamaha 130 on it but it's a 25" motor. Not interested in swapping midsection and driveshaft. The seller is giving me the bracket he used to run this motor on his boat (it's in the pic of the yamaha 130). I also found these 1/2 inch thick brackets from cmc that will raise it 5 inches. Either option ok? I'm set to buy this. Yamaha tomorrow so appreciate any quick feedback. Thank you

My only issue is the load path gets worse. It's now a longer prybar trying to pry the transom off. I would swap midsection

I'm assuming I'd need to swap the driveshaft as well? Do I have to pull the powerhead to swap the mid?

Would I be better off with this 3" jackplate? Description states used for 25 inch motors on 20 inch transom

Hi,
I may be wrong, but is the Yamaha definitely an XL size for sure ? Only asking because (again may be wrong) looking at the picture of the boat with the Yamaha on it there, I am on the fence about wether or not that transom is original to the boat....and not a diy inboard to outboard conversion effort at some point. Doesn't look just quite right to me maybe. Could be totally wrong, just though I would ask if you have verified the idea of it being an XL, from the serial tag details.
Best of luck either way. I think a LS mid section might be hugely more common to come across on these engines. The 115,130 and 140 V4's from the early 80's right up to about 2001 (at least) all shared the more common 20" LS size. The problem is perhaps that these particular engines are that bloody good....they rarely break. Meaning that used parts from broken engines, are sometimes a rarity. Here where I am at least. When they do come available, the parts are in high demand. I once sold a broken 1985 v4 yam 115 that failed (due to the oil injection tank actually turning into a water injection tank !), for more money than I once paid for a working mercury V6 !

The yamaha in the pic is on a 5 inch jack plate for his 20 inch transom. It's definitely a 25 inch motor. He added a piece of starboard to keep water from coming in when chopping the throttle. Here's another pic. His boat is a 20 ft bullet center console originally an outboard motor hull.

So are people preferring the 3 inch adjustable jack plate or these 1/2 inch thick riser plates? I was thinking the riser might be better because it mounts closer to the motor? Either way I'm buying the motor due to a great price then I can decide what to do

Totally up to you, but I think I would rather not drill extra holes in my boat and change the designed dynamics of it either. Are there not any parts for sale near you, to make her a LS instead ?

Here's a video he sent me on his boat on the 5 inch bracket.

Here is my friends LS v4 (she’s a nice as they come). Very noticeable difference in the length of the mid section eh ? Sometimes it’s just an extension piece between there and the gearbox that’s the difference. But these look like it’s the whole mid section and driveshaft too perhaps. Could be wrong.

The whole midsection would need to be replaced as well as the driveshaft seems like a ton of work and $. Might sell it after I buy it and use the money towards a 20 inch 130 hp. This one was very well kept and I'd love to make it work though

Yeah, cleanest I have seen for sure. Stunning thing for sure. Strong power from her too. She can push that 17ft campion along at nearly 50 mph. I think some of the 115hp badged later models are likely more around the 130hp figure and/or have had the conversion done perhaps.

Ok I bought the 25 inch but I'm going to resell it. Buying this 20 inch 130 hp think I'll be much happier after all your recommendations. Thanks to everyone for your guidance. Here's a pic of the 20 inch 130 hp I'll be getting
