I am trying to remove my oil pan on this motor. This shift rod #20 on the Control parts diagram needs to be removed. The manual basically says to remove it but does not go into detail. It looks as though removing the circlip #24 under the bracket #25 may allow the shaft to come up or that removing the rubber bushing #8 on the Upper Casing diagram may do it. The circlip is shown on the control page of the parts, the mentioned rubber bushing is #8 on the upper casing parts diagram. I am attempting to get the exhaust guide free and clear of the oil pan so that I can access the oil pump screen. Thank you for your replies.

I don't see a circlip. I do see what I would call a cowl pin (Yamaha calls it just a clip). Once the HANDLE GEAR SHIFT ASSY is disconnected from the LEVER, SHIFT ROD the HANDLE GEAR SHIFT ASSY can be pulled straight up and out.

Thank you boscoe99 . I appreciate your reply. I got involved in a couple of difficult projects at once. I am working on them all at once. A bit here a bit there, some heat here and some nut buster there. The Gear Gear Shift Assembly came out easily. I was being cautious and did not want to ruin a part and wait two weeks for a new one. I simply applies grease to the grommet, two screwdrivers, one on top one on the bottom. A little pressure upwards and the grommet came right out along with the shift rod. now on to the oil pan ect.. Thank you again.
