National Chairman of the World War II Memorial Campaign
Presidential Candidate
Chairman of the International Commission on Missing Persons in Bosnia
Longest serving Senate leader in U.S. history.
Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service. Twice decorated for his heroic achievement on the battlefield, Senator Dole's decorations include two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.

His World War II wounds left him without the use of his right arm.

""One day he's saying that we were shooting civilians, cutting off their ears, cutting off their heads, throwing away his medals or his ribbons. The next day he's standing there, I want to be president because I'm a Vietnam veteran.' Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served. He wasn't the only one in Vietnam,'' -- Robert J. Dole

MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT GENERAL PAT BRADY
issued the following statement:

“During John Kerry’s time in the Senate he has managed to vote for lower intelligence budgets, lower funding for veterans medical benefits, against higher pay for military families and both for and against the $87 billion dollar package that would provide body armor and increased benefits to the brave men and women serving overseas. Kerry has not yet provided a straight answer to the men, women and families of Operation Iraqi Freedom as to why he did not vote to fund them after sending them into harm’s way. One of those women in harm’s way was my daughter who served during the war in Iraq. I find his conduct on troop support irresponsible --even frightening. The senate record Kerry has provided shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the War on Terror, a lack of troop support, and a big reason why no Democrats are discussing it during their convention this week.”

“As a combat veteran I know from experience the importance of supporting our troops. John Kerry was right when he said a vote against funding our troops would be irresponsible but he was wrong to vote against it based on political winds. President Bush has a proven record of support our troops and the 25 million veterans that proudly served our nation. He has earned and holds the highest respect of my daughter and her comrades.”

And from Lt. Colonel Joe Repya:

“As a veteran, I am particularly concerned with the way Kerry’s views have shifted with the political winds on the serious issue of Iraq and the War on Terror. First, Kerry voted for the War in Iraq, then voted against the funds needed to support our troops in harm’s way. Having once called such a vote ‘irresponsible,’ Kerry now says he is ‘proud’ of what he did. He can’t have it both ways, and Minnesotans will not put their trust in someone like John Kerry who puts political opportunism over leadership. I am constantly amazed by the continued efforts to remake the image of John Kerry, especially given Sen. Kerry’s record of indecision and vacillation on issues of national security."

Yeah!

And me, too.

When it was popular, Kerry abandoned his country and his fellow servicemen and women. Now he wants to be a hero.

It'll be a cold day in hades when he gets my vote.

...and things were getting a little boring here in DC. Thanks M & R. Just because GW came out and told all the 527's to knock it off, isn't gonna let JK skate on this issue. Kerry made his bed with this issue (amongst other issues), I trust it will suffocate him. He's another self-serving whiner, just like Algore.

Re: WWII Memorial Chairman, Medal Of Honor Winner Speak

JB just brought-up a sticky wicket...Popularity.
In all fairness, I must "come-clean", in that I believed what Kerry told that sub-commitee hearing when I heard it back then. I remember how sick I fealt, having served under my own flag. I remember the feelings of having been betrayed by JFKennedy and after him, the then-incumbent bag-o-wind, and his droogies in uniform. I was not alone. The majority of my shipmates fealt the same way.

Well, Kerry and Fonda are two reasons why.I was 'gung-ho' until Kerry's "report" and MiLai happened, not being suckked-into the vortex of propaganda yet, those incidents were the last straws that broke one soldier's will for certain.
After an infraction which I will not go into,I opted for early discharge.

Folks, I'm not proud of this, being taken-in by the "Tokyo Rose" of my generation, Jane Fonda and the very music I listened to, the 'flower children' of the 'peace movement'--and my own 'brothers in arms'. It all seamed so noble, so right....the human thing to do.
I'm not fond of the memories of the captain stepping-off a C-130 transport stateside, and getting spat-upon by some wench screeming "BABY KILLER!"...
That event woke me up, (about the same time period as the hit song, "We wont get fooled again" by the Who came out) -- a tad too late. In my case, and that of the majority of my shipmates, the damage Hanoi John and Jane wrought was irrevocable.
A 19year-old mind is very impressionable...but then, many 19year olds grow-up faster than others, and somne never do.
Hanoi John fealt the need to appologise for his service. And now, he runs upon his war record???
I need to follow suit-- but not for the same reasons, or alegiances.

There are many 19year olds here, and overseas in harm's way, so that I might type this, without being threatened or arrested,or blown-up by a whackoid with an Acme Bomb-Belt. They are as impressionable as I once was. I beg them who may read this ,DO NOT BE SUCKED INTO THE VORTEX OF PROPAGANDA. It's way too easy for the ememy to win thru the ammo of words, just as it was back then.
I ask for every American who reads this to;
1: step-back from what they are doing and saying in public, and think of how it will be recieved by a 19year old in uniform.
2: Think about the future,Do not forget the past, lest it be repeated.
3: Support your own country,in unison, or it will eventually fall into the hands of those who hate us.

I will never understand how someone like JF Kerry could even be considered a viable CANIDATE for the highest office in the land, much less, a serving senator. But then, there's Ted Kennedy, Dashole and others, who should bear a constant reminder to old warriors, not to follow thier ilk blindly.

It's your country, for now,and what is left of it. Don't let the mutants here, in Iran, or on our commercial aircraft win. Islamic terrorists still freely roam your own streets, and the streets of Najaf. Stop them, or don't.

Very well put 12 footer. I cannot understand the feelings of the time as I was just a babe..

I cannot fathom how people in this country can be engergized around this candidate. I see a Kerry sticker and I see someone with his/her head buried in the sand.

How can Kerry/Edwards condemn the Swift boat ads and demand Bush denounce them when their own party and G. Soros has been hammering Bush for a very long time. The Michael Moore stuff is worse than the 529 conflict in that it is disguised in art and been proven false. Yet the democratic leadership openly supports and applauds it. Hypocritical at best. Thin skinned a certainty. What does Edwards threat to sue tell you about his approach to our freedoms?

Kerry is a charicature of the politician sterotype. He is not good people. If you met him on the street, I am certain he would just as soon push you out of the way. On the other hand, Bush would stop and greet you. In the short period of time he has been in the limelight there are several examples to support this.

In my view Kerry is the worst possible candidate at the worst possible time.

Not that many people actually like or support Kerry. It is their seething hate for George Bush that is going to make them vote for Kerry. That is scary.

Unfortunately, you are correct. What has become of our country when our leaders are placed in office, not by what they can bring to the position or do for the people, but by how much less they are hated than their opponent? I thought the last election that would be won on based on being popular and photogenetic was Homecoming queen in high school.
Are the people of this country really so simple minded as to think that a man can become strong, honest, honorable, or learn integrity, after 40 years of worrying only about what is the most popular opinion?

They don't care PP, and they don't hate Bush either. They hate what he stands for. Although Bush is not a perfect conservative, he comes pretty close in terms of his morality. The Liberals are out to destroy every vestige of Judeo Christian morality in this country. It is the ONLY thing that stands in the way of their quest for a socialist world order.

The rank and file Democrats are just being being fooled, by the leadership, for the necessary votes to obtain their objectives.

Fortunately, at least for this round, the Left chose a candidate that is so pathetic that they are finding it difficult to walk away with a victory just using their 'progressive, platitudes.

btw, just in case that you have not noticed, everything that the Left accuses the 'vast right wing conspiracy' of, have been tactics pioneered and utilized by the Left.

Boomyal, it is funny. I was talking to my Mother the other day. She is in her 70's, and remembers the truly tough times this country went through. The depression, World War II..etc. She was railing about the republicans and how they were messing up everything that is Holy to the USA, and I asked her a few questions:

Are you pro death penalty?.................Yes
Are you anti-abortion?........................Yes
Are you in favor of limiting welfare?.......Yes
Do you want lower taxes?.................Yes
Do you want a strong military?...........Yes
Do you want prohibit gay marriage?.......Yes
Do you want tougher laws on crime?.......Yes

When I informed her that she had just affirmed most of the foundation planks of the Republican party, she couldn't believe me, and still supports the democrats.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was a democrat, and so is she.
I think a lot of the country think that way. But old FDR ain't here anymore, people.

I know what you mean PP. My dear departed Mother In Law, as conservative a person as you could find, thought that Bill Clinton was a fine Christian young man and voted accordingly. Nothing you could point out would make a difference. It shows the effectiveness of the Democratic platitudes. They sound so kind and caring. In actuallity, they are very Orwellian. Double speak, they called it.

'Honor diversity'= use every method possible to create disention between the various ethnic, economic and religious groups.

If you renounce your American citzenship, then you are no longer an American right? Well, if your throw away your medals/ribbons and denounce your war activities, you no longer have the right to declare yourself a war hero right? Is this right, or am I missing something here?

As a veteran, I agree. If you weren't proud to do it, don't brag about it.

PatP, my grandmother is the same exact way. She started bad mouthing Bush, and I just didnt argue as there is no point in it. She has been over propagandized with the democrats.

12footer, thanks for relaying that story. The Vietnam war was hell, but the idiot media and idiots like Kerry and Fonda made it seem twice as bad. All wars are hell, nothing pretty about them. Death and destruction are the initial reports, with the good things about war (there are some good things) only appearing years later. The media is long gone by then.

Ken

It amazes me that people don't understand that the entire process of war is the act of killing people and breaking things. Nobody wants to do these things, but at times, it has to be done. Kerry and Fonda are those types that think that you can open up a meaningful dialog with your enemies, and have a rational discourse, and your problems will all magically go away. Unfortunately, the world does not work that way, and in the realm of Global Politics, sometimes force becomes necessary. The men and women who go there and do that should be honored, not shunned.
