CJY,If you're going to mention the side effects of anything that has the potential of killing inocent people ,you just can't pick and choose what fits your agenda and not expect some flack
ob, I can take the flack. If you want to smoke in the great outdoors, in your home, your car, I don't care. The smokers that choose to do what they want, when they want, around whomever they want is what brings laws like this about. As long as there are smokers that believe it is their right to endanger me or those around me, I am all for this type of law.

Re: Wow, smokers will love this

The superman thing fits perfectly CJY-

I honestly wish everyone in here could sit in a hospital room with someone that has just been diagnosed with cancer......cancer that the doctor straight up tells you is "smokers" cancer. I have NEVER seen my dad cry before. My mom said that she hadnt either except at my birth and his dads death. My dad turned to me and said "I cant go yet, we havent done enough fishing".........."I don't want to leave you guys". Ive never seen him so vulnerable, a shade of the man who worked 3rd shift for 16yrs of my childhood so that we could live in our house. Like CJY said, when your a kid you see your dad as invinceable.....the dy you find out he's not isnt describeable.

I dont think I have ever cried so hard in my life. I didnt sleep more than an hour or so a night for weeks, and life was a living hell. People constantly visiting the house and my dad constantly breaking down because he didnt realize he some many people who cared for him.

FWIW I am not going to be offended if people like to smoke. They have that right. I only care when its going to affect the health of innocent bystaders.

No comment on the other items I mentioned CJY or are you still thinking about it?My point is that too many things to mention cause innocent people their lives every day. Many are self induced such as smoking and drinking.BTW my dad died of drinking related health issues. That's something else I no longer partake in.

To get back to the topic debate, smoking indoors or in public places where breathing air is mostly contained has understadibly become unacceptible. But to ban smoking outside in a world that is being polluted a thousand times more by automobiles and industry reeks of over-reactive sensationalism.

Re: Wow, smokers will love this

Ditto. Are we particularly special? Are we the only ones capable of behaving like this without a law?
I guess so.

Honestly thats what this comes down to. No law is going to appease both sides. I guess IMHO it comes down to how much you respect your fellow man.

but like SS said, if it's so bad why is Congress allowed to smoke on the floor? Just think of all the people that is effecting.
Since when do we judge what WE should do based on what on small group of people do........Im not going to go further than that....in case no one has figured it out yet this argument it very circular

Pony and QC, you have to get out on the course more. They are banning smoking and in particular cigars because they are OFFENDING people at more and more courses. I am confident that that 50-75 yards separating pairings probably isn't enough to create a safe breathing environment.

Again how exactly does someone walk past 25 running cars and then complain about 1 cigarette?

Pony,

We got people complaining about people smoking "outside" of restaurants and office buildings where cars are frequently left running.

This is a joke: Wasn't it you complaining about not being able to warm up your car this winter?

Name one person that has died from lawnmower exhaust that was not intentional. The same harmful substances that are in exhaust are in cig smoke with a few extra added. That is precisely why we don't run combustion engines in enclosed areas. Some want to smoke in enclosed areas that the public has access to. It's no different except cigs prolong the suffering. Are we viewing the 2 differently because combustion exhaust kills quickly while cigs usually take years?

Who said anything about lawnmower exhaust?Did you even read what I said or just see the word lawnmower? The topic that was being discussed was whether smoking OUTSIDE is intrusive to non smokers. The comparison between auto exhaust and second hand smoke in relation to volume is not even in the same galaxy.I frankly don't get what your point of view really is.Do you?

To give you some idea, a pack of (made in America) cigarettes (Marlboro, Winston, Salem, ...) here in Japan are selling for 260-280 yen (113 yen to the $1), that’s just a tad over $2/pack. Figure whatever they sell for in America over that amount is all taxes...income for the gov't.

Heard on the radio a few years ago that no state can afford a total loss of tobacco revenue.

Edit: gasoline = 100-yen/liter. Beef = you don't want to know. DSL = 500-yen/day.

The real religion of the left is what is so wrong with everybody else and what is so wonderful about ME!! Mostly it is what you are doing wrong and how you must change YOUR ways.

This hysteria about how smoking is killing everybody in your vicinity while real, serious, air pollution is not is pure, exaggerated hyperbole. When someone who never smoked is diagnosed with lung cancer or heart disease it must be caused by the next door neighbor who smokes on his back porch. Gimme a break!

Well, dudes, my religion is liberty and freedom so you best keep your distance or I might pollute you to death.

Saying "everyone in your vacinity" is a little broad and exaggerated, but I see your point. No where did I for one say air pollution isnt bad or as bad as smoking. It is bad, it is a problem, but last time I checked this thread was about smoking.....completely independant of air pollution. I agree that is a huge problem that needs addressing and it is affecting the health of many........as is smoking. I dont ignore pollution in my dads diagnosis either btw........but there is no way you can tell me second hand smoke didnt play a major role. To call what I say exaggerated hyperbole is pretty easy to do being outside the situation. Plain and simple whether you want to agree or not, its classified as a "smokers" cancer for a reason. Usually only smokers get it.....so dont try and convince me air pollution was more key and I should just ignore second hand smoke.

Listen no one seems to get the fact I dont care if people smoke. I just think its wrong in restaurants............at least until owners are willing to pay for proper ventilation and areas seperated by more then a 1/4 wall. Smoke in bars all you want, smoke in public all you want.....where the negative health affects to others are diminished by sheer air volume.

Yeah exhaust has nasty stuff in it too, and they are working on fuels to lessen that.....much like non smoking restaurants are set up to lessen the health problems of second hand smoke. Nothing I say here is gonna matter so I'll stop at that.

In case you all havent figured this out yet each side has valid points.......this issue wont and prolly cant be resolved without lots of disagreement an fighting. I am sick of those of you who refuse to awknowledge that fact.....Coming in here and spewing your ideals like your the most important thing in the universe, like your view is the only view and the best. I at least attempt to see both sides.

Re: Wow, smokers will love this

Your right pony there are a lot of people here come in to post views that they think are going to get some people to there side of the political spectrum. Not seeing that other people have some sensible comments to add to the pot. Very divided not unlike the rest of the nation. When all the is said and done not many opinions have been changed but a lot of people go to bed Po,d.
