I was paying $1800.00 a year for our cars and motorhome through a local agent here. I called Geico and actually saved big money. How much?

$1000.00 a year! The vehicles are full coverage, $500.00 deductibles. I guess the commercials are true. The moral of this is shop around if you haven't for a while. I have been paying way to much for a long time!!

That's great. I hope it works out for you. :)

Geico wouldn't even give me a quote. "Boat is too old" they said.

Progressive wouldn't either (same answer), for that matter.

I went with State Farm. I LIKE their service and they are a local business. I can actually stop in their office and talk to them. What a concept!

I had GEICO for a while and always found them unbelievably pleasant to deal with on the phone and my rates were good. Unfortunately their computer system screwed me over a couple too many times so I left. (replacing a vehicle on the policy and an address change both went horribly wrong)

I don't blame them, they got wiped out. The others just didn't pay.

I would read any NEW policy VERY closely.

Re: WOW saved a ton on iunsurance

I just did the vehicles not boats, but I also punched in my 82 year old father who was paying 650 a year on his 01 Taurus, Geico dropped that down to $310.00. That is a lot of money to a guy who is on a fixed income. Don't want to sound like a commercial for them so I would encourage anyone like myself who hasn't shopped rates in a long time to do so.

Due to some mistake at State Farm,my home was uninsured for 1 year . And no,the bank was never notified either.
In the body shop business, they are commonly known as: Snake Farm.
Geico and Progressive do a great job of settling claims fast.

Good for you TD! I'm also glad that Florida actually banned State Farm from selling any of its products in the state for a period of time. This is exactly what consumers need to do.

BTW, State Farm didn't get wiped out. Its recent profits are as follows

2003 2.8 billion
2004 5.5 billion
2005 3.2 billion
2006 3.2 billion
2007 5.6 billion

Did they refund the premiums that you paid during that year?

.

I don't let my mortgage company handle my homeowners, for precisely that reason. I WANT TO KNOW I'm covered.

BTW, one home is Hartford, the other is State Farm. Both agents know I split the deal. It keeps everyone sharp.;)

I don't have anything against Geico and Progressive other than the way they handled my inquiry. They (both) basically told me I owned a POS and wouldn't consider insuring it.

That POS is my Whaler.

Re: WOW saved a ton on iunsurance

My wife shopped geico today online and got a 50% reduction quote!!! She called and they verified driving record and found 4K dollar claim in 04 and the 50% reduction disapeared.

She went back to progressive and tweeked the coverages and saved 200/yr. The '04 claim will hopefull disapear next renewel, may the rates will get better - insures fighting for business. :D

SHOP AROUND!

I've heard that insurance companies are bending over backwards to sign up new customers that happen to have outstanding credit scores depending, of course, on where they live. If there are readers of this thread that happen to fall into that category and haven't shopped around for insurance lately, it might be a good time for them to do so.

I switched my cars over to Geico from Allstate last year...saved 50%. and got to upgrades.
State Farm got "wiped out" because they made bad investments at the same time they had to pay out for a hurricane.
I almost lost my house because of those pricks. They dropped my homeowners insurance because of a minor claim. I feel sorry for them - NOT.

I will be doing the same in june at the end of my policy term. I did the same with Allstate some years ago. I detest having to shop for insurance policies.

Re: WOW saved a ton on iunsurance

I was a loyal customer at Allstate for over 20 years. After 9/11 they DOUBLED my Home owners insurance rates. I called to inquire and got the standard double talk as a reply.

I then switched to another carrier for double the coverage and a lower rate then Allstate before the increase.

It is a pain to change carriers but a "shop around" maybe should be done every few years.

I agree with T2F.
When I recently switched auto carriers, I checked my home owners.
There was a huge difference with the auto insurance between companies.
I found little difference with homeowners. But, I will still be keeping my eye out.
While I switched to GEICO for auto, they did not handle home owners directly. They brokered independents. I recently threw out a piece of junk mail from them advertising homeowners. I will double check again to see if they are now underwriting their own.

See, now this is a very hot button for us here in FL..They got wiped out huh? Billions of dollars paid in, for years & years....We have a run of bad luck with hurricanes and we are unprofitable and no longer covered..
Maybe our premiums were poorly invested in Lehman Bro's or million dollar office renovatios?
