I am 19 wanting to buy my first fishing boat. I drive an 05 canyon, 4cyl and 5spd. I am only looking to buy a very small boat. I am not worried about pulling the boat on the road, I am just concerned about pulling it off a ramp. I have a bumper hitch but could get a bigger one if needed. The boat would be this size or SMALLER

I don't think your truck would even know that boat is behind it. You should be fine with a bumper hitch but better off with a class 2 or 3 hitch. They sell the hitch plates that allow you to put a reciever in if you can't afford the hitch. That 4 cylinder is a perky little engine and being 5 speed makes it even better. Is the truck 4wd? If not, make sure you have a little weight over the rear wheels for pulling the boat on a slippery ramp.

Welcome aboard

Absolutely no problem with that boat/weight.

I would carry traction mats for the ramp "just in case" or as mentioned above......get some weight over the rear axle.

I pull my 14' Lund S-14DLX with a 35hp engine behind my Canyon and it's a breeze. Pulls the same boat much better than the Ranger I had. I just barely have to give it any gas to pull up the steep gravel ramp I use and have never spun the iters with it like I did with the Ranger.

Now that you have your tow vehicle "approved" :) for that size boat, make sure you shop wisely for a decent one. This forum is a great place to read up and learn all about that, if you haven't already done so. Good luck!

ahh Thanks to everyone so much! Big relief to hearing it should be no problem. As I said, I'm not too worried about pulling one, it's pulling it out of the water is what I was concerned about. Thank you all. And as for that boat, I'm not completely decided on if I will get that exact one. I was just using it as an example that that would be the maximum size I'd get. I also know my truck will pull 2300lbs. I have no clue what to estimate that boat at. Also my truck is only 2wd

That boat and trailer together are probably less than 1,000 lbs. I doubt you would have any trouble pulling it up any reasonable ramp.

You can pull that boat with a MoPed.
