Timing is fixed for the life of the motor.----Some folks still insist on meddling with it.-----What is your motor doing / not doing?

Dangerous for one, and motor will not run properly due to drag from lack of water flowing around the lower unit as it should. I would never try that !

Yes but I see people at the ramp driving there boats up on the trailer and with a heavy truck and a very will strapped down boat and the motor in deep enough water wouldn't be like a test propeller in a barrel if not better because of the unlimited amount of water

I was actually thinking about doing just about that ,(was going to mount it on my quad and back that into the river.)..sorta dyno testing ,but with a 6hp and an18hp.
But you would want to make real sure you had it tied down coz if things go wrong it will happen real fast . Wind the power on slowly , 😁and get it on video so we can see how it goes 😆

Does a test propeller have to be in a test tank or can it be done on a boat, like tide to a non movable barge with cleats and lines

Check it at home on the trailer.-----Empty the carburetor.---Hook up timing light.-----Advance to full throttle.----Turn ignition to " ON " -----Wrap rope around flywheel.----Have assistant wind it over.

Yeah, most will not sign off on that in this forum. My uncle used to tie the boat to a dock to put it on a small load while doing other tests...

The "do it yourself" test is out on the water with a partner but your little motor should not need that.

Answer post number 3 for help.

You have timer plate syncing, which is part of the link and sync procedure...total timing, unless messed with is set at the factory.

To answer some of the questions, yes...you need a test tank with an old school test wheel to do anything like that, but that motor doesn't need it. The new way is a hydraulic set up that bolts to the gearcase with no prop (dyno).

Good luck with your outboard, when running correctly they are great little motors.

the concrete ramps only go back so far. the spoil pile from power loading can be seen just below the water at low tide. makes the ramp unusable until the county can repair it. hence the hefty fine ($500 for Manatee County). takes an excavator to move the pile and allow boats to use the ramp again.

Ok ,I know of a few short ramps round here too.....Im meaning tidal. Mostly what we get there is gravel washed away from the end of the ramp and then someone drops the trailer off the end and cant pull it back up .
I have noticed too that as more peeps get rollered trailers the whole drive on thing has become less traumatic as most boaties idle there boat on to the trailer. My boat doesnt just slide on , old style rubber rollers but I cant be arsed with all the revving and splashing so I idle it on far enough to hold it on the trailer , jump out and winch it on the rest .
On my river the speed limit is 5knots ....and hardly nobody boats it apart from kids playing on floaty things . 2 months of the year (end of winter ) the limit is lifted and the jet boaters have their turn . It aint the best thing as they launch of gravel beaches and you can see where they have been ....but then I saw a huge trout basking in one of them holes ,so , 😁 what the heck .
