Hey guys,

I am almost finished restoring my 77 Sea Ray. Its a 240 sedanbridge. Question i have is about hatches. There are two on the bow, one for v berth access and one for the anchor locker. Both are just hinged sheets of ply. They had a grip tape cover on the top and thats about it. So now they are both rotted out.

Trying to make something more durable.

I know i could make new ones out of sheets of ply and cover with glass, but i would like to make them out of some sort of plastic/composite material. Any suggestions on a type of material other than wood to use?

anchor locker is 1/2 thick x 1.5' x 1'

v berth is 1/2 thick x 1.5' x 1.5'

That cutting board material may be exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks.

What kind of bond are you asking about ?

Gasket material ? or bonding two boards ?

3m Super weather strip adheasive for gasket materials..and 5200 for Perma bond 2 starboard surfaces.

Prep Is very important when dealing with starboard for sure..

ended up going with fishbones suggestion. found a decent Bomar hatch on CL. 75 bucks, cleaned it up, painted it, and threw on a new gasket. it is almost the perfect size. im going to drop it in today. heres some pics of it cleaned up, and what im replacing.

got the old crap ripped out and dry fit the new. need to make a plate for sandwiching it in... the lipped portion isnt quite as wide as the hole.

core of the deck looks to be in good shape
