Wood Paint

I have some wood that I would like to paint. Its in the engine capartment and it still solid so I am not replacing it. I am hardly ever going to see it and don't really want to spend $100 for a gallon of white easypoxy to paint it. How well would just regular exterior paint hold up in Marine conditions. I just need it to last 3 or 4 years.<br /><br />Greg
