If anyone has some experience on building a small wood boats (skiffs or jonboats), what kind of time did you have involved in the project? What was the cost of the project? Did you purchase plans or make your own pattern? What type of build; stitch and glue, or skin on wood? My father would really like to have a boat like this for him to handle on his own (light and easy to handle). Thanks to everyone that can shoot me some info. Post pics of your project if you would.

Re: Wood boat pattern

I don't have any experience myself, but there is a company in SC, www.gatorboats.com that could help you out with plans. They also have a finished boat section with lots of photos. Some of the more stricking are the ones built like a strip boat. Good luck!!!

I built a 10 hydroplane with plans from GlenL marine. They have a lot of plans and pictures as well. Proven plans from dinghys to large runabouts. Good luck

For Jon Boats, I think this one of the best Sites for Pics and plans.

OR If you want to try and go it from Scratch and do a V-Bottom these old plans are detailed and build a good little 12 footer.

Cost to build with wood and Glass should be 4 -$600 dollars depending on how fancy you want to get and how hard you "SHOP" for your Glassing supplies. www.uscomposites.com is a good online source. Being from Michigan there may be some suppliers closer to you. Check with local marinas and boat shops to see where they get their supplies. Epoxy IS the Wood Boat Builders Resin of Choice and it IS Expensive. 6 -8 oz cloth will be what you need as well. Cabosil and Chopped fibers for filleting too! Ext. Grade Doug Fir plywood will get the job done but Marine Grade IS the Best but WAY more expensive.

Re: Wood boat pattern

Thanks for the great links and info from everyone. If I can get the pattern before the weekend, I will get started right away. I will post pics as the project takes place. Thanks again.
