Good Evening,

I have a 1977 'rude V4 85hp. I managed to get it running, and it runs nice and smooth. I just put 1 pint of seafoam in 4 gallons of 50:1 mixed gas.

After running for about 5 minutes, the pitch of the motor changes, almost like the RPM's are increasing. I can no longer see any exhaust coming out. At this point I can no longer shut off the motor with the key. I have to choke it to kill it.

I started it up again, and was able to turn it off immediately with the key. Did this a few times, and let the motor sit for about 15 minutes. Started it again and it does the same thing.

I am running it on muff's in the backyard. The heads and block are cool to the touch. I tested the switch with my multimeter, and it all works.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Won't shut off

I should also add that the position of the start lever does not change the speed of the engine. It still moves the throttle controls inside the engine, but will not change the speed.
