Re: wiring

Great boat. There's not much wiring and I doubt you'll have much luck finding a wiring schematic with the exception of the motor and controls.

The good part is that all the original wiring should be to ABYC standards and color coding is the biggest part of that. Get a hold of the color codes and any add-on third party wiring will usually show up like a flare on a dark night.

Wiring can still be confusing so you might want to take pictures and post them here so we can help you through it. The motor and control wiring are a piece of cake for most of us that work on these things regularly.

Re: wiring

A two wire stator indicates a battery driven CDI ignition with a distributor. That places the motor at 1975-6, or older. You will have the old wire colors, not the ones Charlie provided. I know that stator is not the right one, but I have no idea if it will work. It probably won't bolt up. What are you trying to rewire?

it may be obselete ! I don't think it is bad all it is is a 12 volt DC magnet. I would do some more test before repair it
If you go to typ cragslist heartland fl/boat motor part there are a number of places selling motor part it goood price and low shippiing.

Re: wiring

Like charlie stated I also doubt that the choke selinod is bad. Old mercs .com has most parts for older motors like yours if Iboats list the NLA. and one of the salvage yard dealers listed in the sticky 'Top Secret' in the Johnson motor section here on the forum. A manual for your motor will have wireing diagrams and is a cheap investment if you plan on keeping the motor and working on it youself.

Re: wiring

Best bet is to get one that is made for the motor as it should have everything needed to fit right and less work. I might have one or be able to get one for you as I have several more suppliers for old mercs than listed in the sticky. Let me know if you still need one.

Re: wiring

as you can already tell i have never worked on a boat i didnt know the choke solenoid was mounted to the cover that came off and wala there was one there lol but anyways i have two live wells does one pump run both or do i have two plus bilge pump after pulling out all the old wiring i realized its only twelve volts its simple you have a negative and positive hell its not a three phase for crying outload but the people that had it before tried to do it and over complicated it is why it looked so horrible so all i need now is to buy a stator and an ignition switch push to choke can any one explain the purpose of the tach plug?????? or can i just hardwire it all i hardwired the motor wiresthat are coming out to ignition and ran through a piece of flex and i am going to paint it black did away with pigtail and plug does anyone see any problems with that ???
