wiring problems

i got a 67 40hp johnson and they cut the wire horness on the outside of the motor and it is a elec. shift. I guess there is no linkage or shifter. I am lost can anyone help me. thanks

You are going to need a control box for that motor. It has one lever for the throttle, which attaches to the motor with a cable, and has pushbuttons for the shifting. You will also need battery cables.
The first thing I would do is jump it directly to the starter with starter cables and get a compression reading on both cylinders before proceeding any further. If you get bad compression on one cylinder, then it may not be worth going any farther with that engine.
