Wiring issue

I have a 2001 Johnson 90 hp j90plsid. The battery cable rubbed against the throttle linkage until it rubbed the insulation off and grounded out. All the wiring seams to have gotten very hot but I can't find any that has melted insulation or any blown fuses. There was some residue in the wires from the power pack to the optical sensor by it doesn't appear that the wires are burnt up. I can see several small places where the wires got hot enough to melt the plastic on sever parts including on top of the rectifier. At this point all I can see that is ruined is the battery cable. Should I be worried that the rest of the wiring got hot? Anything I should do before trying to start the motor?

The heat should be between ground location of shorted wire and bat + terminal.

I would losd test battery, replace cables, and try it.

Moboter, I would seriously look at any bundled wires. Those are contained with other wires and would get hotter then a single wire would. So look over all the wiring and pay special attention to bundled wires. JMHO
