Does anyone know where I can get a wiring harness for 2006 Volvo Penta 5.7GiF? The VP parts online store says it is Wiring harness part number 3817806 - Replaced by 3888188. However, nobody has one!!! My boat quit suddenly while out on the lake. Apparently, the ECM went bad, so I spent $2000 for a new one, but the mechanic says the problem is a short in the wiring harness that caused the ECM damage. I need a new harness, but can't find one anywhere. Help???

If the mechanic knows there is a short, why not just fix the short?

Wires are wires, just fix the issue and should be good to go

This is a GI wiring

If I could find a good legible wiring diagram, I'd fix it myself -- I used to own a company that made wiring harnesses for conversion vans and pickup trucks. But I need a proper diagram and I haven't found one anywhere. VP is not helpful either.

The one posted is the best I have. Guess its hard to read but shows all the wires and pin outs

Maybe these can help a bit more, and can always post some other areas

Thanks -- I'm going to see if these line up to what is in my boat. I appreciate your help.

there are differences in the wiring depending on what version you have. The wiring posted above could be up to a MEFI4B. According to my wiring diagram the ECU for the 5.7Gi-F should be a different one, with three rows of pins per connector and positioned in the middle of the ECU.

I would highly recommend to check the wiring. I do not have a master´s degree in physics, but I can´t think of a way to shortcut a wiring with a defective ECU.

Did they read the fault codes of the ECU before replacing it?

Thanks for the reply. I did find a manual on ebay with the actual diagram like you posted. They did not have a code checker that would work with my engine. I search around Texas and couln't find anyone with the correct code reader and terminals. Shooting in the dark now and hoping we don't destroy the new ECU.

MEFI code reader can be made with a 12V resistor type LED and a paper clip, or digital multimeter with tone and paper clip.

Connect as shown and count the flashes with key ON and not running. Code (EDIT) 12 is all good and codes repeat 3 times then long pause and starts again

Awesome. Is that 14 flashes of the light?

Volvo Penta Marine Parts Europe indicates that the 5.7GI-F has the Volvo ECU not the MEFI-4B. Easy to check, the MEFI-4B has two rows of pins in both connectors whereas the Volvo ECU has three rows of pins in the connectors.
If you do have a MEFI-4B the codes can be read using the led method I have tested mine. I know nothing of the later Volvo ECU.

This is the manual that has your wiring diagram.
Available from iBOATS I think. You have an EGC controller on this engine.

Wow, the plot thickens. Turns out my boat has a newer ECM that this method will not work on. Apparently, pre 2006 Volvo Penta engines use a different ECM. It works on MEFI 1 - 4 -- that changed with my boat year and apparently will require me to buy a code sensor and an adapter. $700 I'm pretty bummed.
