Hi, all, the wires have been taken off distributor cap has been removed About a year ago. Need to try and get this thing running don’t know where the wires go on the distributor cap.. Ford cobra 302-1994 The distributor rotates clockwise ……all the diagrams I see the distributor rotates counterclockwise, so I’m not sure where the wires go. Thanks for any info.

what is the firing order?
you will need to get the motor to TDC on cylinder #1

Then what, don’t know where the wires go on the cap. Where’s #1 on the cap, then where’s is #2 on the cap then and so on….all diagrams I see on the net show the dist rotating counter clockwise, mine is rotating clockwise? 1994 seawirl ford 5.0 cobra omc spider. Doesn’t seem to be in any of these. Clockwise rotation.

first, you are looking at firing orders for a car, not your motor in a BOAT.

assuming your motor has the distributor in the front to be a ford vs a GM (distributor in the back) Your 1994 OMC marinized Ford 302 should have the 351 cam, which means it would follow the 351 firing order vs the 302 firing order. However you have to VERIFY the firing order of your motor (look on the motor, it should be cast on the intake or a sticker on the spark arrestor).

start with getting the motor to TDC on cylinder number 1. then the tower the rotor is pointing to is cylinder number 1.

from there, follow the firing order in sequence.

Distributor rotation is counterclockwise. When looking down on the distributor cap most times #1 will end up @ 1 o’clock position. You must first make sure the engine is in the #1 firing position. Remove the #1 spark plug which is on the starboard side spin the engine a little at a time with a finger in the #1 hole, when you feel compression look at the timing marks and manually turn the engine to the TDC position. Mark the rotor’s position on the distributor body as SD said with a marksalot. Install the cap and bring the mark to the cap. From that point start installing the wires, 13726548 which should be the correct order. 1-4 on the starboard,5-8 port side.
If your engine is 190 hp then the above firing order is the one you need.
If your engine is a 170 hp then the correct firing order is 15426378.

Got it, except my dist shaft is turning clockwise when I crank motor ? starter was also replaced at that time last year. Is it possible that the starter is incorrect ? Do they all turn the same way ?

Is the distributor in the back of the motor or the front?

Starter motors can have different directions.
Step #1 ... get a original equipment manual for that motor and alot of the answers you seek shall be in there.
