Wipers on = lights on

Ohio as of the first of July now has this law. To me it is just common sense to do so. Many times light colored cars become camouflaged in heavy rains.

I'm wondering if the lights that some vehicles have that come on when in gear is allowable by law, or does the headlights have to be on? My Express van has the amber lights that come on when in gear and only go out when the headlights are turned on. Just curious to know what other states say on this matter.........Thanks........SS

Wipers on = lights on here in Minnesota.

You will see in the coming weeks that 25% to 30% will NOT comply.

New York has had this in place for many years. Compliance is lacking.....

I just semi retired from driving long haul trucks and there are alot states with this law. And then there are the ones that need it. If people would just use a small part of their god given common sence there would be no need for this law.

As for the amber light vs. the headlight question, I belive they mean head lights, and not the day time headlights. But accually turning on the headlight switch.

It's been the law in Florida for decades that you have to have your lights on with windshield wipers running. Sadly there are many who do not adhere to it and during this time of year in central Florida, you can quickly find yourself invisible in a downpour. Needed to add luckily my Pacifica has a feature to turn them on automatically when the wipers are running... way cool!!!

Especially this time of year huh Cribber??
What cracks me up is the people that slow down to 25 mph and turn on their flashers so we dont hit em...Maybe if they werent going 25 mph on I75 they wouldnt have to worry about that!

Kev back when I lived down there we called those tourists ( or snowbirds ) LOL. I turn mine on everytime and my Chevy express has the daytime running lights where the headlights come on as soon as you start it . I still turn the lights on when it rins cause headlights dont = tail lights. I still laugh in a good downpoor when people pull off the side of the road and wait it out . Growing up in Fl. I lerned early on how to drive in the rain . I drive SWMBO nuts cause I dont even hit the wipers on my vaan till it starts getting fairly heavy as the windshield does a pretty decent job of clearing itself :D.

My 06 dodge charger turns the lights on when the wipers are turned on also. And CA just passed this same law a few years ago.

Tx has the law.

After driving around Canada with their DTRL law I now turn on my headlights as soon as I pull out of the garage. There are people out there who, like me, can pass the vision test to renew their license but due to minor cataracts can see a car with lights on about twice as fast and twice as far as one without. I really think people with perfect vision will see me faster and farther when my lights are on.

If they see me they are a lot less likely to kill me.

I no longer drive at night (cataracts) so I need to use my headlights sometime, don't I?

So is it lights on when the wipers are on or on when it's raining even if your wipers are off? I can see better out of my truck with a fresh coat of Rain-X than with the wipers on.

WI has had the law for several years.

I drove with my headlights on all the time for 30 years. Have to have them on on the bike, so I figured it was good on a 4 wheeler too.

Never heard of the law, nor do I know if our state has it. Will have to look into that.

I am not very sure if PA has this law but i beleive they do.
I have an older vehicle and the lights only come on when you turn them on.
I always turn my light on when it rains, it is common sence. And i am one of the few Teen drivers that have it ;)

Thanks, you beat me to it.
However, remember safety on and off the water. But I've been in Florida downpours where I have asked "where did the road go?" I kept hearing that voice in my head saying maintain speed and course while straining to see the moron stopping in the middle of the river, I mean road in front of me.

i has been the law in Florida for decades, i remember when it became law, but could not tell you when it was. i was young them. also in Florida amber front lights are for PARKING, not DRIVING lights.

in the dark ages St Pete was the retirement area, as kids we called it the town of the living dead, now The Villages is the area. it was kind of scary going thru there to Lake Griffin.
