I have a 1989 Sea Ray that is not running at this time and will be having a rebuilt engine installed this winter early spring. i am concerned that there is water in the out drive and may freeze this winter. my question is how can i winterize it? thanks in Advance.

The outdrive should be self draining.------But check gear oil and make sure no water is in there!

To the OP, make sure it's not a very bad outdrive system before you go and buy the replacement engine.

OMC Cobra/King Cobra sterndrive has limited parts support but one can get along if you don't break something not available.

Yamaha Sterndrive. Don't bother with this. Change to Alpha One Gen 1 or Gen 2 outdrive or sell the boat for parts and call it a loss.

Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 1 or Gen 2 version sterndrives you can't go wrong. Good OEM and aftermarket part support.

If you are going to keep the outdrive, then remove it, you have to anyway to replace the engine. Remove the outdrive and store it where it wont freeze..
