Isn't it better to be safe then sorry .Did any of you price a head for a 90 hp motor..?suppose you didn't do a good engine flush and some water was still in your out drive above the water pump..Then what.? I guess you guys live in the warmer winters.

In my area folks use outboards in the winter time !----Ice on the water and snow on the ground.-----Boats left on the shore.-----I am sure they do not winterize them every day !!!

When you speak about some's wife out of text it shows how low class you are and you should be banned from this site.

Who said anything like that? No one was referring to the woman married to you. We don't even know if you're married, nor do we care.

Take the chip off your shoulder. Just because none of us agree with you doesn't mean you can talk about class or banning.

Talking about classless - You said we are "so dumb"!

Got any pictures of busted outboard powerheads caused by freezing? Stories with proof?

In the end - It's your money, do what you want.

Sir -- you don't have an "out drive" you have an "outboard". Big difference. I/O's have outdrives (engine inside the boat, outdrive outside the boat). Once again, "outboards" are self draining. Water or antifreeze will not stay inside an outboard when positioned vertically. And it only needs to be vertical for a minute or two to drain.

Wow. Just wow.

Please dont call us dumb, as you are clearly ignorant of the facts, and lacking the hundreds of years experience of the mechanics you just insulted.

Say your good byes now, someone will be leaving us soon.

Goodbye silver eagle.

I keep a boat in Minnesota in an unheated garage, and I've never used antifreeze for anything. My winterization procedure is unhooking the fuel line, running out the remaining gas in the engine, and then making sure the motor is trimmed down. That's it.

All I want to know is what kind of antifreeze should I use to winterize my out board motor .If you don't know the answer why are you making unnecessary comments.?. I never said there was a jacket in the head or anything about it staying in the motor .I got my kit in the mail when it gets cold enough I'll take my water hose flushing piece hook it up to the 5 gallon tank filled
with RV antifreeze and flush the motor out .The fluid will drain into a plastic tub to be used next year It's that simple.

Maybe you could educate us.

What are trying to achieve by running antifreeze through the engine into a plastic tub ?

This will help us determine what type you should use.

You can get rv and boat anti freeze in temperature ranges from -25 to -100 F. You pick. For what you are doing, wont make a difference which one you pick.

Save yourself some labor. Forget running the stuff through the motor! Just dump it directly into the tub of water. You accomplish the same thing. But speaking of flushing, you might be better served by using a rust/scale removal produce to flush the engine. At least that would accomplish something.

No matter what any of us say, we are NOT going to change the OP's mind even when the engine manufactures say it is NOT necessary. He has it in his mind that it has to be winterized with antifreeze so why are we wasting our time trying to change it as it seems no matter what is said to him he won't change, Let him waste his time and money.

Everyone knows that but it's funny after awhile.

Summit Racing has "Evans Waterless Coolant High Performance Coolant HIGH PERFORMANCE". Its about $48 a gallon, but that's what you need to use, or else you risk damage to your unique, one-of-a-kind outboard engine that requires something that even the manufacturer doesn't say is needed. Good news though - you might be able to claim it all on your taxes next year. On your itemized long form, list it as "dumbassery expense".
