Winter Storage Question

I just put mine in indoor storage last Friday, I could only put the drive about half way down as they needed to be able to move it around to get it into position. I pulled the battery to store it at home, so there is no way to move it. I figured half way was better then nothing, the bellows were just changed so I hope it's not an issue. The marina that serviced it suggested pulling the outdrive every other year so I don't plan on doing it next year as it was done this year.

All the boats stored at the marina had the drives in the up position and they are outside.

I thought the main reason for keeping the out drive down was to keep water out of the lower unit and prevent it from freezing. Underground storage this would not be a problem. I know there are problems with the u-joints and bellows as well.

U-joint and shift bellows (on alpha) are stretched to max. They should be left down to leave them relaxed.

I'd be curious to know how many people actually do that. Mine was off once in 9 years to fix a leak.

When I had boats with I/O's I had my drive(s) pulled every year at winter layup. They greased and lubed the drive(s) and checked the alignment. To each their own.
