Winter storage outside

I intend to simply put a tire cover on my motor (9.9 HP f4 stroke and store it outside over the winter (Ottawa Canada). The motor will be mounted on an engine stand, so it will be standing upright. I will change the lower end oil and engine oil before storage, but am a bit uncertain about how to drain the water from the engine. Have been told they are self draining, but is there a way to ensure all the water is out of the engine block before storing it outside?
Thanks,
Doug

stand up-right, pull over once or twice while in gear to get the remainder of the water out the pickup

Thanks, not sure why you have to put it in gear though. Doesn't the water pump work whether or not the engine is in gear?

Good point. The water pump turns with motor Never thought of it until your comment. Been spinning the prop in gear for years without thinking about it
