Yea that would be great. I am by no means an expert but will help all i can. I am in the middle of restoring two now myself one glass and one tin. Trust me the tinnys are much easier just take your time with the tear down and you will see how it all works. Have fun and happy boating

Nice find on the boat! You and your daughter will have loads of fun putting the work in to her. One piece of advice listen to what she tells you! Children (I'm assuming) have a different way of looking at things and sometimes it makes sense!!

Man you talking about Mississinewa brings back memories!! I spent many a summer weekend on the chieftain on that lake. Show up on a friday and not off the water until monday.
Again nice boat and I think you'll love the Starcraft brand!

Hey HooverDad, I did my seating like Rick was thinking and for my uses..fish and ski..it works out very nice . Only I put my front seats on boxes for storage and a built in cooler . The rear bench is perfect for seating (with cushions)and makes a great fishing deck without the cushions. Plus the bench gives me room to have 2 /12.5 gallon tanks mounted down in the hulls center and multiple batteries plus stowage for gear. Best of all , it leaves a great open space for fishing and a huge tube will fit there as well http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt47/mattrogers5/DSC02460.jpg

Some already know, but I'll throw this out. I'm looking at getting a 1967 Slickcraft with a 115 mercury on the back. Is the boat, trailer, and motor (does work!) worth $300 plus my little john boat (with few holes, and I have never used!)?

Is anything compatable with my Jupiter? Could I use the motor and controls? Seats? If nothing else, I could resell the trailer, and hopefully get my motor working later (I still need to look/try this weekend).

I think I would make out ahead with this deal! Any thoughts?

What model of Starcraft? and size?? The trailer is probably worth the price and do you have a photo of your find?

I was wondering if the 115hp would be to much for my 16' Jupiter? I am not opposed to SPEED, but safety is far more important! I hope this deal goes through, if nothing else, I can still sell the boat, motor, and trailer.

Check out the thread titled why do these boats do this. If you want to have fun and be safe don't go over the max. I had a 14' fiberglass carvel that was a rocket with a 85hp johnson and these tin cans are alot lighter.

Pics of my motor. Mercury 650 (EL?). Any ideas of how to get rid of the white stuff (I assume from salt?).

someone told me that a pressure washer would rid the motor from most of the 'white stuff' (again, what is it?...salt?). The boat has the same 'crap', but it flakes off much easier.

It should work if it don't it will not hurt any thing. Did you get it running. or how did the compression test go.

I'm going to wait on the compression test (not a big deal yet....huh?). I am most concerned with getting it to fire, and turn over. I also need to know about the white gunk building up on the lower unit. I will try to fire it tomorrow. I'll keep everyone updated.

Also-BIG news in regards to restoration. I'm getting heat in my garage!!!!!!!!!

HEAT?? lol..That is essential!

I on the other hand have seriously thought of having Rick walk me through tapping into the homes AC ducts to have my garage UNDER 80 degrees..

Re: Winter=Dad+daughter+lots of work! (new to boating)

We got a wood boiler about 1 year ago....and it is the BEST thing ever! I'm running an extra line through our garage for radiant heat/radiator with forced air. It will be good for many reasons....especially me, laying on the ground while sanding, and when painting. :)

I need to get pictures of my floor. I'm seriously considering tearing it out. It has seats attached, and they won't come up or out. I have to get some pics.

Speaking of floor, I would like to tear it out (to make it a 100% restore), and to clean the foam. Also, anyone close....I have 20+ sheets of foam that I've seen people using in restorations. Let me know if you want some; in return, I would like feedback on my boat!! HA:D

LOL not that I need the foam but the pressure washer should do fine removing the corrosion on the outboard and the boat and as far as replacing the deck( floor ) as long as you are this far into it might as well . You might find you need alot of that foam for your own boat most likely if its like the foam in my boat most of it will end up in some heavy garbage baggs :D.
