Re: Winter Bass Fishing Tips?

A legal size fish of any sort to a kid is HUGE to them, and I agree, ya gotta let'em have 1 or 2, and incorporate lessons of C&R at the same time, or be explaining to them "why" that fish was able to attain the size it did, to be legal.

Re: Winter Bass Fishing Tips?

All the bass that I have caught and released into a frying pan have had the most delicate sweet flavor. Very good fish, I think the best tasteing fish of them all because of the sweetness.

Because I fish mainly for specs and reds and I practice C&R too, all the time. In Florida I can keep 1 redfish per day, if it is between 18" and 27", and that's it. This year I took home zero reds, the only one I caught was 33". I can keep 4 specs between 15" and 25", plus one oversized per day, this year I only kept one of several boated. The fishing regs here make it almost impossible to feed my fam on redfish, and the bass seem to be way smarter than me so they don't make it to the table much either.

Re: Winter Bass Fishing Tips?

hey all,
the key to catching bass in the winter(even down here in s fl) is to keep the bait small. after a cold front is the worst time to go, but they still can be caught. if the water is muddy try a bright color lure or jig.if its clear try something more natural.don't rule out a small purple (worm 4-5 inches)
good luck
chris

This is a lake not far from me. These Bass were caught in 40-48deg. water just this past weekend, Jan. 22.
The story about the trip and is in the fishing reports page of this site under Trinity Lake.
Other recent winter Bass fishing tips and catches on other local (to me) lakes can be found in the reports page. Shasta and Clear lakes have a real powerful winter Bass bite going on now.

I'm spooling some fresh line now and I'll be heading up to Trinity in the AM.

The picture isn't of me, just a happy winter Bass fisherman, for sure.

http://www.westernbass.com/ncalifornia/photos/showphoto.shtml?886.shtml
