Windsurfers crossing Lake Michigan today!

Two guys, both well experienced , are crossing Lake Michigan today on windsurfers! 87 miles, as the crow flies....

I hope they have a rescue boat following them the whole way. They can try to cross as often as they like, just as long as they don't expect my tax dollars to go save their butts when they get in trouble.

As far as the " ever been done before?" .. no record of it thus far....

Winds shifted to northerly, so I wonder if they will be successful. Or just end up in Chicago!

My lil' brother and his buddies used to windsurf while dodging ice flows on Traverse Bay. I think they had snowmobile suits on under their dry suits.

They called it dedication. I had another term for it.

He lurks here sometimes. Maybe he'll chime in on an October cross lake trip.

them wind surfer folks is a special breed i think. man, they go out on my local watering hole is the most horrible high winds available to them. they really move out too. i personally don't like them. a sail boat that moves way faster than a sail boat. + their profile is usually kinda small w/clear sails. ya really gotta watch out for them.

one of them (a wind surfer dude) was on the beach one day while i was there. man, that was one buff dude. muscles just sticking out everywhere. the ol lady thought he looked pretty good....
