......I normally fuel our V-20 in route to our favorite launch sites. On this particular day the only available fueling island presented the boat in a slight bow-down attitude, thus the fuel tank?s vent tube was probably submerged causing a minor splash-back from the fill port as the tank approached full. A quick wipe down and away we go.
After launching, venting the bilge and about an hour into our fishing, the XO commented that she smelt gas. I recounted the fueling mishap to her and watched her as she thought that through.
Several minutes had passed when she commented, ?Really Ed, here?s the source of the gas odor. You forgot to replace the lid. You really do miss the obvious? as she gently closed the rain cap on the stern light socket!
