will an older larger alternator out of a 1987 3.0 mercruiser with points ignition, work in a 2002 3.0 mercruiser with electronic ignition? note (the newer one is much smaller, but they both fit on the engine. thanks

I would post your questio in the Mercruiser engine/sterndrive section. There are some Merc gurus in there.
