Hey, I found a cheap way to paint my boat. I am thinking of using tremclad "rustoleum". How is this paint? good or bad for aluminum?

Did you use a different colour for the topside? Is it also possible if you can send me some pics of the boat you used this paint on?

Me too...Me too....wanna paint mine in spring after all work is done. BTW...what is the best way to close up screw holes above the water line that won't vibrate or break out? After removing the cabin and a few other items, I a, left with the screw and rivet holes that I need to fill...ideas?

I used rustoleum also to paint a 30' Marinette (aluminum) cabin cruiser, I used the JB WELD epoxy stick to close up any holes that I no longer wanted, boat has been in water since May of this year w/ no problems.

I painted this fiberglass boat with Rustoleum paints. I used a roller and brush and it has held up really well for about five years now. Good paint for the money IMO. Prep is everything.
The JB didn't vibrate out of the holes? I'm talking assorted rivet and screw holes. I used JB weld on a small crack on the exhaust manifold with no problems at all. Believe the previous owner was a little sloppy on the winterizing thingy and it froze and cracked.

wow. The boats came out really good. I guess im going to have to go with rustoleum. Here in canada rustoleum is tremclad. The dont sell a specific paint for marine like rustoleum dous in the U.S. Is what you guys used was the marine paint or regular rustoleum?

I did not use JB Weld liquid I used the epoxy stick where you nead the dark grey and light grey parts together. I used this on several holes in the hull where little trim screws had been, also on the dash where many instruments had been. My boat probably does not vibrate as much as a jon boat.

I just used regular rustoleum thinned with acetone and applied with the thinnest foam roller I could purchase.

You'll need to read up on the Details in the archives,...
But,.. You want to use a Primer that's Just for Aluminum,.......If your boats Aluminum......
Once you get the Primer on,.... Rustolium Right Off the Regular Paint Shelf is what I use.......

And,... As Always,......
