Will Not Shift Into Reverse

Mercury 25 HP, 2003, electric start, tiller - will not shift into reverse from. I just purchase the boat and had no problem the first time out. The second time out it worked until I went to load it and had to back up. I couldn’t turn the tiller to the reverse position.

have an 2004 25 and on the tiller handle there is a tension screw in the middle of handle and when mine was tightened it was hard to get into gear sometimes. try to loosen the tension a little and see if that helps
