will bad reeds cause fuel to spray from carbs ?

johnson 50 hp vro has small amount of fuel spraying from carbs . question: could bad reeds be causing this ?<br />need input <br /> thanx , skelly<br /><br />------------------

Yes. Another cause would be timing, or restricted exaust.

Fairly common for the 2 cylinder OMC to spit back fuel,new reeds may help but not worth the effort.

Yes it is common for OMCs two and threes to spit a little fuel back at you.A fuel restriction or weak VRO will animate this phenomena.What symptoms are you trying to cure?

The symptoms are : idels little rough & small amount of unburnt fuel that drips down leg of motor. Not a lot, just a few drips after each outing.<br /> Thanx Skelly<br /><br />------------------

These guys are right about a little bit. If you can see it when look across the carb with the engine idling then it's too much. With broken or chipped reed you will see it easily.
