Long story short, my buddy stripped two of the four spark plug threads while I was running a compression test, trying to help me finish up so we could get on the water. I was able to fix one of the cylinders with a helicoil, but the other cylinder was somehow too loose for a helicoil. It would require a Big-Sert Time-Sert, which I can't get for another two weeks since I live in Canada, and they cost the same as a used head that I can buy locally from a parts outboard. I already pulled off my original head and gave it to a local machine shop that quoted me $200 CAD to get it done, but that would also take two weeks. I was curious to know if the head from a 1976 85hp would fit so I can enjoy what's left of the warm days on the water

so apparently for the block it self and head is the same from 1969-1984. so i should be good. its identical to my engine just different ignition and shift mechanism

As long as its a small bore 85 it should fit

No, the Part #s change several Times through the Years Pre 79s were 92.6 in. Displacement, Post 78s were 99.6 in. Displacement. Early Blocks will not bolt on to the Later Mid Sections.

As long as its a small bore 85 it should fit

The Part #s are different for the 76 compared with the 69s. They will likely Bolt-on, but there might be Differences in Combustion Chamber Shape, and thus Compression
