I've always felt Bose was marketing over function. Regardless, if it can't get internet radio without commercials like just about every device nowdays, I can't imagine owning one no matter how fantastic the sound. Does it have that capability?

Mine is hooked to my direct tv box so I get all of the music channels from XM. It also functions as my surround sound for video that way.

A slightly cheaper alternative for your consideration...
Ambiance Touch World Radio

Cambridge Soundworks is a MA based company (like Bose). My father owns a couple surround systems made by them, and the quality is top-notch.

I have the Cambridge also in my office! (Wasn't kidding when I said I liked audio) great sound also for a bookshelf unit. My home theater stuff is Denon and Polk Audio.

I heard the 12 kHz and I'm WELL over 50. The 8 kHz about made my eyes cross. It made my normal ringing kick into high gear. Noisy day ahead, I guess. Thanks, Bob.

For X's sake....:eek::)

You did say it was a Christmas gift for her, why does it matter what you think of it?

Given the success of some gifts that you chose all by yourself and reported in here, (.... I'll bet most guys in here have had similar disasters), if I were you and had a chance to stroke a cheque for $500- for something that my wife said she actually wanted, the pen would be moving so fast that it might set the cheque on fire.... :)

I have an older Bose, probably 6 years old. She is by far the best radio I have ever heard. I can be three feet away or thirty feet.....doesn't matter.....the quality and sound level remain the same.

Good luck, Bubba......and have a wonderful Christmas!

This might be a cheap way out for you look at this video with your wife!! It is silent to me.

Those of you that are feeling older than you should after watching this need to recognize something. There are three parts to this equation, your ears, the thing generating the sound (PC, laptop, iPhone, etc.) and the speakers/headphones). Each has a range capability. I was barely under 50 with the laptop speakers, made it under 40 with earbuds, and now I am under 24 with quality headphones. Don't off yourself just yet . . . ;)

Happy Wife, Happy Life. Hey most of us knows that Bose is overpriced but hey, she gave you a great idea. Next year ask for some boat or fishing stuff. lol. It's better than a pair or slippers. And she will enjoy it.

Yeah, you should be pretty well healed up in a couple of weeks or so.

I've never known/seen a gift, no matter how expensive or desirable, that keeps a woman happy for a whole year.

Buy her something cheaper, other than what she wants, and see how long the happiness lasts. ;)

Not an "audiophile", but back in the day, when everyone had a stereo system, those few with Bose speakers, (since they were rather expensive), were always sounding noticeably better, IMO.

Now days, my hearing is so bad, two tin cans over my ears, sound about the same, as Bose headphones.

If you can't pay your electric bill, if you buy this radio, then sure, but otherwise, making it about you and not your wife, might work ok, for you, but it has never worked out well for me (trust me, I've tried). Plus she does not bat an eye, for the cockamamie things I have spent good money, on and never used.

In some cases, money does buy happiness.

Nice. I've never heard one in person, but have read that the Waves are like a very good boom box.

She went with me to hear one (in a sound room) and wasn't all that thrilled with it. On the positive side, the salesman put togther a bose component system that sounded MUCH better and even cost less. Oh yeah, that and some diamonds (necklace and matching ear rings) did the trick. ;)

I have wanted a bose for a long time but got the wife a sony cdk50 under cabinet radio and she is pleased with it. I prefer my pioneer sx-737 with those 1971 pioneer speakers I have coveted since I bought them new. more cow bell....
