Too many TV ads I think... Mrs. Bubba has it in mind that she wants a Bose Wave III radio / CD player in the kitchen. So I stop at the local electronics shop and listen to one. UGH... I mean are you kidding? This thing sounds like mud in the low ranges unless you crank it all the way up and that hides the low ends. To top it off, this piece of cheap plastic costs $500!!!

The guy at the store, seeing I wasn't impressed said, "Don't know why anyone buys these things, good marketing I guess".

I left without it...

Unless you listened to it in a sound room, they will sound terrible. Much like looking at TV sets at a Best Buy with all the flourescent lights and thinking they have lousy color.

Our neighbor has one in his livingroom and it sounds really good.

My grandparents had one and I was actually pretty impressed with it. Not $500 impressed with it ... but impressed with it.

$500

I bought my son a Sony Xplod radio/CD player 3-4 years ago that sounds pretty nice, and I'm picky on how a radio/stereo sounds. The Sony might not have "wave guide" technology, but it has a small sub in a ported enclosure that gives it decent bass.

As far as your wife liking it, maybe not so much as it's designed for the younger generation with flashy colors and lights. I believe it's also bigger than Bose.

I have a felling you'd be better off buying the Bose though. You know what they say, if mama's not happy, then no one is happy..............

Huh X-Mass??? We use Christmas in our home ;) Buy your wife her Christmas present and life will be good.

My main concern with the Bose is the reception based on where I live. We get very poor reception on ALL the radios to include the ones in our cars.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Has your wife always thought everything you wanted for Christmas was a good idea?... did she buy it for you anyway?

The difference, it does everything it was built to do. :D

I know what you're saying, kind of...

- You look at the $50K Camaro and think "That's best purchase we ever made!"
- Then look at the $500 Bose radio and think "That's the worst purchase we ever made!"

While in the another alternate reality...

- You're wife looks at the $50K Camaro and thinks "That's the worst purchase we even made!"
- Then looks at the $500 Bose radio and thinks "That's the best purchase we ever made!"

My wife and I share similar disagreements on what's best, and she doesn't see my perspective all the time, even if it makes perfect sense in my mind.

But the chances of that radio being damaged by a deer is pretty slim. ;)

Mind ya, they sound great cranked up while boat camping, but then everything does with enough rum.

Re: Wife wants a terrible X-Mass present.

I think the solution is to have her go listen to one. She's never heard one, just seen the commercials. That or have her read the on line reviews, lots of unhappy buyers out there after I looked.

Well a face to ear experience is probably the best.......... go with her and listen to one.

Time is short.
Make her happy, get it.
Do the listening test on Xmas afternoon in the Kitchen.
She/You can always return it on Wednesday.:D

That's right!

What may seem like a crappy present to you may be one of the best presents she's ever gotten for her. $500 is cheap to keep the woman of the house happy for a year!

I have heard a few, and they sounded pretty good, not $500 in my opinon though. I also have my 68 Camaro, and I think she thinks Thats way to much $ too. I would get it for her, and if she doent like it, return it.

Okay....... I will also admit that at my age with my hearing loss I can not be considered an affectionado of music. I can't hear the highs and lows anyway....... I have a hard time telling the direction the sound comes from. My wife has superior hearing to mine but she is much younger.

This might be a cheap way out for you look at this video with your wife!! It is silent to me.

We have one and are very happy with it. The key is where you locate it in the room. It does sound "hollow" if its not in the right environment. And I'm VERY picky about audio.

I've never known/seen a gift, no matter how expensive or desirable, that keeps a woman happy for a whole year.
