I'm thhinking there will be a lot of 5-7 year old Jeep models cheap very soon:laugh:

GOOD! What is one person's fear is another person's gain. I would like to know which models they tested, not all Cherokee models have unprotected fuel tanks

Good responses. A truck really isn't a good option here. I have a truck already. As I said, she'll probably always tow the camper if anything. 95% of the time she won't tow anything and wants a car-like vehicle to do daily driving with. An Xterra or other smaller SUV *might* fit the bill, but I don't think so. Even cross-over vehicles don't really excite her. She really wants a *car* that's a manual transmission & I want it to tow ~2500 lbs (camper).

What I've gathered from this thread is that I'm basically looking at a Subaru Outback as about the only thing that's really going to fit the bill. Pretty much what I thought at the beginning of this thread, unfortunately. Thanks all for the ideas & input!

Volvos and SAABs have high tow ratings. Not sure why I forgot that. Check even the C30 has a 2000 lb rating and lots of manuals out there. Hot little car much like a GTI. Swedish cars always had high ratings. I had a friend that towed a tandem axle with an 18 footer all over heck with an 850.

A Corvette can tow. LOL, I saw a guy towing 2 jet skis with one, he even launched them. LOL

my bmw 330 convertible (5 speed manual) has a curt hitch rated for 2000 lbs but although it could surely handle it, Ipersonally wouldn't abuse it with much over 1000 lbs

Don't be too upset over an Outback. While I hate admitting that I own due the stigma (black lab owner, granola eater, environmentalist, etc), it is an awesome car. Plus, maintenance is stupid easy and traction is outstanding. It is probably one of the very few new cars that has an open and roomy engine bay.
