I know new software takes some getting used to the changes and things in different places, but one thing that Ive noticed drives me crazy.
Say I go to, for example, the "general boating' forum and I scroll down the page looking for topics to read. I get through reading that page and
decide to go to page 2, and guess what....the next page/page 2 button is no longer located on the bottom of the page! I now have to scroll back up to the top
of the page to click the next button.
I know, its a small thing, but it makes No sense at all.....

I have a page counter at the bottom of the page now, didn't a week or so ago, but now it is very similar to how it was before.......

BTW: Isn't there a big blue clickable tab:

in the bottom left corner of the screen on every forum page? Click that & it will take you, Back to the Top ;)

Yep, there is a back to the top button....all the way on the left of the page.
So now when I use the scroll bar at the far right of the page to scroll all the way to the bottom, all I have to do is then slide my curser all the way to the left of the page, click the back to top button, then slide my cursor all the way back to the right of the page, and then click next page.

Sorry...its a ridiculously poor UI implementation...and happens to be the only one of the many many forums I frequent that doesn't have the next page button in the most obvious, easy to get to spot...at the bottom left of each page!

Again, I have a page count at the right bottom of every page that has more then 1 page, that allows me to click the next page or skip to the end if I'm at the beginning:

My apologies, you were referring to the topic list NOT another page IN a topic.

Simply amazing, anyone that has taken the time to read through the various posts since the upgrade would understand what is going on

The forums are very messed up right now, so I do not think it is worth trying to figure things out until the issues are fully known and resolved. I am not sure the the issues are specific to this version of the software or specific to the upgrade of the iBoats forum.

To me the biggest issues seem to be the error messages, which indicates some underlying problems more than just the navigation and ease of use. However, it seems that other forums are running the latest version of the vBulletin without the extent of issues. So, I am wondering if something went very wrong during the upgrade??? Any further details from the Moderators or Administrators ???

Yes error messages...and I like to follow along from my email. Well most of the time I get "a fatal error has occurred" or something like that when I press a link from email and when I can get through it always brings me to the beginning of the thread not last new post. Then, since I can't find the button "Go to 1st unread", when I try to go to the last page I get an error like GA_Boaters.

I understand that software upgrades happen, BUT the software should be THOROUGHLY tested BEFORE putting it into production. Just my opinion of course!

The update is, there is really no update. The IT team continues to work diligently on the issues. However, there is no timeframe on when thesse fixes will be in place. We just need to continue to ride out the storm......

Thanks for the reply. I do think that part of the frustration that people are feeling is from a lack of information about the situation. some information has been shared, but based on the extent of the problems, it seems like there is more to it.

Even bad news would be better than no news at this point. Just something to pass along to the folks behind the scenes.

We try to keep people updated as much as possible. But, we can go awhile w/o hearing anything ourselves. The information I provided was given to us this a.m.

Frankly, I am in this mode, and I was hoping the word was getting out more extensively. The basic, screwed up, issues are inherent in this version of vBulletin. The owners and Admin of iboats have told us that they are now working directly with vBulletin, and that we just need to wait. We're all hatin' it for sure, and just hoping for a decent solution so we can start prioritizing the tweaks. Sadly, we are nowhere near tweaking right now :(

Yeah, I spent a few hours researching vBulletin 5 yesterday and it seems the problems we're seeing are typical of VB 5 upgrades. No way of telling how long they will take to resolve although we have gained some functionality in the last few days. iboats has an excellent IT team and they'll git 'er done when they have something to work with.

While there's really no real good time to do such a big change over (especially one with "such" unforeseen big issues like encountered) the timing was meant to happen during late winter but there seemed to be some sort of internal problems that delayed it until what one would think to be the busiest time of year (just before Memorial weekend) but past statistics shows that the later in the summer we go, the higher activity the forums will see. So the hard/difficult decision was to set the wheels in motion as soon as possible and hope for a smooth road which unfortunately has not happen.:(

To help try and understand some of the time-frame questions of why, Here is a quote from someone that had to be part of the difficult decision of when to start the change over even though it wasn't what they intended to do right now.
The time frame is definitely NOT what we wanted. In fact, we had a lively internal meeting about the time frame this afternoon. The original plan was do the switchover back in February but several roadblocks came up.

We reviewed the post stats and everyday up until mid July just gets higher, so the sooner we do this, the better. We of course talked about holding off until the off season but we've spent several months (both with the hardware and with making sure the functionality would work) that we felt waiting would negate much of that work.

Please know that the guys that are able to work on the problems are aware of most of them and they are working on them as they can. So thank you everyone for your patience and support during this long dragged out transition.

The upgrade did start over the winter with the mod squad working on a test site to make sure the upgrade would be as easy and seamless for all of you as possible. I think we had it down pretty good with only a few minor tweaks needed yet. Then something happened between the test site and the upgrade! VBulletin happened! Now iboats is spending more money to hire a vBulletin techie to come in and fix vBulletin's issues. It just doesn't seem right, but they are doing it to try to eleviate your frustration. We continue to hope vBulletin comes through...
