Re: Why Why Why???

Had a great day on the sea yesterday.
Beautiful weather, calm seas, empty beach.

I check and double check everything.
To the point of OCD.
My wife says I'm mad.
I laugh at these stories of dragging the skeg.
Stupid people, should be more careful. Shouldn't be allowed to captain a boat if they can't follow a simple procedure.

..........Oops :redface::mad:

Why, why why me :confused:

I have never drug my skeg... which now has a nice polished stainless cover on it... that's my story anyway! :redface:;)

Re: Why Why Why???

My favorite trick is taking off and leaving the bow mount trolling motor down. I haven't done it for a while so I'm due.

The good thing about that one ^^^^^ is you don't need a shower when you get home.

Re: Why Why Why???

My last one was after saying in a EPA tank thread that I was happy with my non EPA tanks and didn't want to mess with the new ones. Naturally while off on a 4 day boating trip with the wife on the last day as we went out to breakfast one of my tanks had walked off in the night. It took 3 days and a lot of calls to find a replacement, but had a real nice trip. :facepalm:

I agree, I imagine that kind of mistake would be really embarrassing. Especially in really cold water... and you happen to work in a job where a boat is required... a place that might rhyme with "Farmy Corps of Engineers".

Last month I decided to take advantage of a Saturday I didn’t have to work and took my little 12’ tinny down to the lake for some quiet crappy fishing. My method for solo launching it is to unhook the transom strap and winch, hook one end of about 20’ of bow line to the winch post then back in till it floats and pull the trailer forward. This works great and I can then just pull the boat back in and beach it besides the ramp.

When I got to the ramp I saw one of the officers I work with talking to some fishermen. I then proceeded to launch but my method would not work. Every time I would see the boat start to float I would pull forward and the boat would follow still on the trailer. I tried backing in deeper, hitting the brakes so it would float off, and jerking forward but the boat would not come off. I then pulled up the ramp and went back and looked and I hadn’t unhooked the winch cable. I looked up and there was my buddy already on the cell phone. I wasn’t in the water ten minutes when I spotted the patrol boat with one of my other partners and the regional supervisor coming up the lake towards where I put in. I ducked back into a cove where they couldn’t find me rather than be the butt of their humor.
