Last thing I heard was 2009. They seem to keep moving it forward every few months. Next year, it might be 2015.

Quote:
dvrs are cheap and easy. Why are you contradicting yourself?

Quote:
The only thing keeping the company from going completely under is their partnership with Directv

Wrong again DirecTV now has their own DVR. What partnership? Also, the TiVo fee on DirecTiVos is far below that of regular TiVo machines.

Quote:

HBO went heads up with tivo, settled by working with tivo to implement a scheme where your recorded programs are installed with a time code tag and will self delete after 3 days or 7 days, whatever the program owner decides

Not true.

Just FYI, new implementations of Macrovision copy protection will allow a program owner to set flags as to how long a program can be kept and whether it can be copied. So far no one has implemented the flags but every current DVR, including those from the cable companies, with a current Macrovision license will obey the flags.

I can see Tivo implementing a higher monthly type of "lease" fee for future cablecard PVR's. Sort of a rent-to-own scheme. This will basically put them own the same footing as the cable companies. You can pay Comcast $15 a month, the current lease fee for a HD-DVR in my area, or pay Tivo about the same for a Tivo. Of course, this type of scheme will require some type of longterm contract. Not such a big deal since CableCard Tivo's will work with any cable system in the country.

It wasn't just HBO this was worked out for, and it doesn't apply to over the air broadcasts.

Quote:
I heard that the Simpsons (fox broadcast) will self delete in a few days, too.

You heard wrong. There have been a few cases of the self-delete marker being accidentally broadcast with certain shows (like the Simpsons) or a bad signal creating a false version of that marker. OTA broadcasts are not included in this arrangement.

Same for making and selling hardware that will illegally access subscription programming. Fwiw, many of the cable/sat channels are available for free via a sat system (forget the name). All you have to do is buy or make a sat receiver for that sat system, not illegal.

Tommays – thanks for the update on the tivo programming expiration flags.
Is this the National Enquire forum....lol.

I wish I had more time but I don't.

If you were a little closer I would gladly upgrade your Tivo.

My first upgraded "HACKED" Tivo I bought for around $200 it had 160 gig HD added and an Ethernet card, not bad plus he gave me all the software disk I needed to do my own and provided support during the painful learning curve.

Re: Why Tivo sucks!

Sorry about the syntac and grammar I threw this together quickly.

Just be aware that what you are doing can land you in jail.
LOL.......never in the history of the free world has anybody gone to Jail for what you have falsely accused ZmOz of PERIOD, it's laughable.
If you can prove this I will send you $10,000.
Let me guess you also know people in jail for jaywalking......... ;)

Let's take your fantasy land scenario and pretend it's true even though at this time "and for the last 3 years" it's impossible for anyone with Direct TV to violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act due to the advanced Smart Card technology currently being used by Direct TV.

Back in the day when you could steal Direct Tv's programming like your friends who are not in jail because they are small timers and ALL the people they supplied who also are not due in courts because that's not how it works.
After being basically laughed out of the Police department and knowing Law enforcement had more important things to do, Direct Tv took a different approach to there Pirating problem they went after the Major Dealers of these device's "cards, smartcard readers" located mainly in Canada at the time because of the Laws up there, armed with search warrants they busted and confiscated equipment and billing records, yes many people were stupid enough to use there credit cards and with this info Direct TV sent out over 10,000 letters based on the names on the credit cards used for purchase demanding $3500 for restitution or they will be sued, many paid, it was very profitable for them, Direct TV sued about 10 percent of these people unfortunately for Direct TV they had no evidence according to Judges and in almost every case Direct TV failed to show up in court or when they did show the plaintiffs were granted summary judgments.

So unless your friends with some of biggest dealers in North America of which only 6 ever went to jail “extenuating circumstances” you are miss informed, just like your factually incorrect statement to ZmOz.

So if you give me the names and case files of your friends and I can verify they are currently in jail I will apologize.

As far as your assertion that a single end-user like your false accusation against ZmOz has ever gone to jail save it you lost that one…and there won’t be a $10,000 prize for you.

Hope this clears thing up for you guys.

"

Believe what you want. I doubt you will send me the money if I choose to prove you wrong by posting links to the news paper story.

In a nutshell, they were tied to screwing with signals from satelite communications, a federal offense. They were not sued by Direct TV or any other private company. They were tried in criminal court. They lost. They went to jail. All for copying satelite cards.

I really don't care what you do or what you believe. I was just sharing a real life example how you can end up in jail for doing things you don't believe are illegal.

Nothing I posted was false or miss informed or factually incorrect as you state. And I never accused anyone of anything. Reat my posts again. Get your facts straight before you run off at the mouth.

You are wrong. Time to face up to it.

"Seven Charged in Satelite TV Hacking".
Jan. 25, 2xxx

Sevenmen, includingaformerlawman, were chargedwith forgery and computer fraud Wednesday in a television satellite hacking business, state
officials said.

The men are accused of using cards from satellite equipment boxes, reprogramming them with a special software to allow users to receive
unlimited service without subscription, and selling them on the black market for $100 to $400 a card. Normally, service on a card can cost
anywhere from $65 to $250 per month depending on the number of channels. The cards contained service from DirecTV, a well-known
satellite company.

Using one of the cards, a person could have access to hundreds of channels. DirecTV said the company lost programming costs and enforcement expenses.

Among those charg~d was former Maricopa County sheriffs Lt. (deleted) 46, who worked nearly 20 years in the department before leaving the job two years ago.

Investigators saidevidencewas found during a search of Xxxx's home in
Wickenburg. He was charged with forgery, theft and computer fraud.

Others charged are (deleted to protect the guilty)

If the men are convicted, each could face up to three years in prison and $150,000 in fines. EDIt by Mark42 - They got both.

The Maricopa County SherifPs Office and the state Attorney General's Office investigated the case for almost three months. Search warrants
executed this week in Maricopa and Pima counties resulted in the recovery of 40 forged cards, though the total number involvedis unknown, authorities said.

"We've been working on this for a while," state Attorney General Janet

Napolitano said. "This is an illegal business, and we will find out about an

operation like this if it's going on."

It's estimated nationally that the pirating of satellite TV costs businesses and consumers well over $6million. The FBI says this is a growing crime, Napolitano said. "

And that is all I'm going to post on this. If you don't believe me, then so be it.

Pay me via Paypal. I'll send you the email address to make payment. You can send me a message at shareaproject.com and I'll send you the paypal email address for payment. Looking forward to a new boat. Thanks.
