I winterized mine 2 weeks ago because other years I was ice fishing before Xmas. This year it will be some time in next month maybe.

My daughter and I were tempted to "un-pickle" the Bayliner yesterday. I can have mine water ready in just a few minutes, and could have it ready for winter storage in less than an hour pretty easily.

I have an I/0, a jet and 2 OBs that are "daily drivers". Right now, all have had their batteries pulled, the upholstery is detailed, the hulls are waxed, the tires are pumped, the bearings are repacked, the gas tanks are topped and stabilized, the lower units are drained and refilled, the covers are on and they are snug as a bug in the boathouse. I could have any one of them back in the water in the 10 minutes it would take to re-install the battery. Then after running they would all take about the same time to pull the battery, polish the hull, repack the bearings, check for water in the lower unit, yada yada.

JimS123,

Would you say that polishing and waxing the entire hull for state of the art smoothness makes a notorious speed difference on flat calm no wind waters compared to doing nothing to hull, that's boating as usual ?

Happy Boating

I polish my hull for the same reason I polish my car - it looks nice and they stay nice longer. I used to also polish the bottom, but at my advanced age I'm jut too lazy to crawl underneath her any more.

Conventional wisdom from raceboat owners dispute the wax the bottom theory.

i polish once a year in the spring all but the bottom, the PO painted the bottom and i tried to sand it off but was too much work so i'm letting it wear off slowly:laugh:

That is why I like my Merc 165 4 cyl. Closed cooling system, drain heat exchanger, plug in charger, lower the outdrive. Done.

We went to Sunday brunch this past weekend at a waterfront restaurant overlooking the lower Niagara River. We had a window seat. It was 18 degrees out , snowing heavily and very blustery. During the course of the meal we saw 3 boats drive by - all open runabouts with no canvas up - an I/O, a OB and a tiller outboard without even a windshield. I guess none of them were concerned with winterizing.

I guess the fish were running...
