We have one that comes in once a year or so. Guy uses it as a duck hunting boat on the local river. He bounces it over logs and never slows down.

Redneckery at its finest!

Well "jet jons" are usually pretty cool. That one, while fun looking, is pretty useless. They basically just replaced the jetski hull with an aluminum one. Silly.

Truth be told it's not a terrible idea. Be cool to use on small lakes, etc. No worrying about fouling a prop and you get the utility of a jon boat. Not my cup 'o' tea, but with a little cosmetic work it'd look okay I bet.

May be an idea for another entire boat category(PWCJB)?. Looks like it would be better on a bit longer and wider jon boat hull. With a larger hull, it could be great for hunting and fishing in very shallow water or running rapids and such.

Google mud boats. Nice tunnel in the hull with the outdrive protected. Using a seadoo as a hard core mud boat would eat up a wear ring about once an outing.

If I ever make it out there you are gonna have to spend a while letting me play with all those toys.!

This is sitting out back for the sole purpose of hurting one of us one day. We just havent tackled it yet!

jet intakes are far worse about sucking up crap than a prop. Seaweed in particular is a big problem. And to fix it you get to go swimming, vs tiling the motor up.

I was referring to mangling a prop in shallow water, not seaweed. I've never encountered seaweed in any lake I've been on. Occassionally some moss in a shallow cove, but not seaweed. The only thing I've ever had fouled on my jetski was a ski rope thanks to a novice friend operating it. :)

Yeah not quite seaweed, I meant things like milfoil and any other random freshwater vegetation that will plug up a jet. (I've had to swim a couple times with mine before)

Before I bought my small bow rider, I was looking at 4 seat Waverunners and hanging out at one of the PWC forums. There was a guy that wanted to do the opposite - take a jet ski hull and mount an outboard in it. Yes - all types.

Also, over at the Glen-L build your own wooden boat site you will find several plans for boats fitted with jets.

LOL - I've never encountered any moss in any of the (hundred or so) lakes I've been boating on over the last twenty years! I see a lot of chara, as well as aquatic macrophytes like pondweed, duckweed, coontail, hydrilla, milfoil, smartweed, eelgrass and the like. But the only moss I've seen has mainly been on trees and roofs, maybe some rocks...

I run a prop in shallow water because the jets can't handle the sand. My boat will run through less than six inches of water - I wonder what his jet boat runs in?

Re: Why do people do what they do????

The question is: Why not do it?

I'd venture to say that the HP rating for that boat is being well exceeded by that modification. The weight distribution is horrible with far too much weight in the back. He even admitted that it porpoises with only one person. It looks like it porpoises badly even with two. I would bet that that much speed on a flat bottomed boat handles horribly. Look at how much hull is actually in the water when he's up on plane. Someone could point to a high end bass boat, but from video and other posting on this sight, we also know what can happen at high speeds with an inexperienced boater at the 'helm'.

Nothing a little trim can't fix, possibly in the form of a permanent nozzle adjustment.

or a ride plate adjustment (or trim tabs of some sort, given there might not be much of a ride plate left!)... nozzle adjustments can do weird (and sometimes dangerous) things, as the level of trim changes in direct proportion to your thrust. If you need lots of down trim, the instant you let off the throttle it will go nose high and could start porposing badly, maybe enough to toss you out.
