IQ tests simply compare your smarts to that of other people. Above 100 means you're smarter than average, below 100 you're dumber than average. IQ tests are designed not to ask you what you know, but to find out how well you can put 2 and 2 together, and how long it takes you to do that.<br /><br />I would call any teenager with an IQ above 100 smarter than any adult with an IQ below 100. Like I said, if you want to define smart and dumb differently that's up to you.<br /><br />Whether I listen to someone or not is completely unrelated to their IQ or degree of dumbness....

I feel that age brings perseverance in most but not all people in many ways look at the age of most really good athletes <br /><br />Most will be around 30 years old give or take and might have been stronger at a younger age but did not have the maturity that age brings to perform at the top level <br /><br />Just one example but there are many<br /><br />tommays

Not much else that I agree with Z on right now . . . <br /><br />I would much rather spend an hour shootin' the ship with an old salt than a higher IQ marine engineer . . .

Well, I disagree with ZmOz about IQ.<br /><br />IQ is inherent ability to learn, understand and remember. . . .that's intelligence.<br /><br />Smart is the results of learning and remembering.<br /><br />Intelligence without learning is dumb; not knowledgable, not smart.<br /><br />Stupid is dull, very low intelligence. These people have difficulty learning, understanding or remembering.<br /><br />Youngsters may have a higher than normal (100) IQ, but they are far short of the learning needed to be smart. <br /><br />Mature adults may have a less than normal IQ, but have had plenty of experience to learn and remember and are therefore likely to be a lot smarter than the hotshot kid whose hormones are raging against any controlling influence.

teens are not dumb, I was the smartest sucker in the world at 18, ask my dad. I will agree with you there, but what pisses me off is the people that think that is ALWAYS true, regardless of the people you're talking about. There millions of 30+ year olds that make really stupid decisions every day.

hahhahha<br /> and a few of us still make them at 44 <br /> I just tend to make less at 44 than I did at 18.<br /> <br /> but I know many teens that graduated with my daughter that are very smart, some will succeed and others will go down in flames, some have already done one or the other. does not make them stupid nor smart. means they did not have enough knowledge base to make the correct decision. <br />its only when the same mistakes are repeated that I start thinking the lights are on and no ones home.<br /> one of the boys, very smart teacher said his IQ was in the 130 range, got busted for breaking and entering to the tune of about 12,000 dollars, he spent a year or so in jail at 17, got out, 3 months later got busted for the same thing in the same town. now he is hanging out in raliegh.

And there are alot more 20 year olds making alot more stupid mistakes than 30 year olds because they just don't understand. I know this because your insurance rates are higher at 20 than 30. You know why? 20yr olds make more mistakes regardless of IQ. Take this thread. "Knowing" you are right, but argueing just the same. But you are right the 50yr old will show better judgement maybe only 99% of the time. Note the older gentlemen (rodbolt), relatively speaking, who posted said "usually". That's experience, not IQ.

your spot on about the insurance rates, my sister added my 18 yr old nephew to her policy last year, dropped it this year after his 3rd wreck. no he whines about not having wheels yet he wont work full time.<br /> his IQ is in the 120's range, he and a friend recently spent 40 dollars playing video games to win tickets to get a prize. the prize was a 5 dollar golf putter like you see at putt putt.<br /> I still have not figgured that one out.

My other "2 cents". Teens are not stupid or dumb by definition. They just lack the driving force to think like an adult reflecting on our coulture (society). In this country (US) teens are brought up to be dependant on thier parents until thier're 18. The need to mature and act in a responsible manner is minimal. In Japan however, teens are taught at an early age about thier role in life. They recognize that foolish behaviors will lead to failure and success is not an option. Furthuremore, parents there are allowed to spank their kids when need to to keep them in line. by the time they leave the nest, they are well prepared. <br /><br />Inclusion, teens are not to blame for thier "stupid, dumb" behaviors. Our culture is the problem. Perhaps we should lower the mature age to 15. Better yet spanking should be reinstated. Then again i don't know what i'm talking about half the time.<br /><br />Professor Rodbolt, having read some of your thread/post, i totally agree with you on your statement, "I was a smart sucker when i was 18". I would run for office if i were you. Just remember to add a little 'spin".

I didn't say there weren't, but again, anybody who thinks a person is incapable of making good decisions just because they are 20 (there are several of those people on this forum) is the real idiot.<br /><br />Ask any of my employees if I make good or bad decisions, and they'll all tell you that without me they would be unemployed. These people range in age from 24 to 63. Clearly I've made better decisions then they have, or I would be working for them.<br /><br />BTW - I used to be a member of Mensa, the only reason I'm not anymore is because I have no reason to pay their $52 yearly fee. Is anybody else here a member?

My point is that if you cannot make good decisions, you cannot run a business. Period. Some try, and make bad decisions, and their businesses fail very quickly. Mine's been going for 5 years and it's still growing.<br /><br />You can't judge a book by it's cover. My cover says I'm 20, and that is no way to judge me or any of my abilities. Same goes for every other 20 year old.<br /><br />Forgetting something is completely different than making a bad decision. Working at Walmart because you want to and working there because you HAVE to are also very different things.

Wise comments rodbolt, but I have to say that I really envy Z right now as I am pretty sick of working for others. Grass is always greener . . .<br /><br />ZmOz,<br /><br />Despite what you may think, I would never assume anything about you solely based on your age. I have a nephew who is about 25. I think he is probably the most stand up, straight shootin', hard working guy I know, period. He now asks me for advice. He didn't do that a few years ago . . . Our relationship has never been better and I want him as a business partner.<br /><br />Another interesting side note. When I first started posting here, I was intrigued by you quite a bit. Maybe it was your boat . . . Frankly, I thought you were older than you are (still not sure how old actually), it took a while for me to see signs that you were younger. I definitely did not make that assumption immediately. Pretty interesting study that could be, without anything visual or audible, we make age assumptions. Hmmmmmmmm.

Z but one bad decision can end a business, sometimes the decision was not even yours to make. <br /> sometimes a market shift or a leveraged buyout or just plain bad luck can negate all the planning and good decisions in the world. it happens.<br /> so I congradulate you on the foresight and good decisions so far. dont berate out of hand those that dont have a business or that punch a clock.<br /> I have a friend here now from new jersy,<br /> he had a printing business that also manufactured printing machines. he was looking to expand. took on a japanese business partner. went to the bank and secured loans and such, he lived in a 2 million dollar hours wife,kid yaght cars cement pond in the back. went away for a weeks vacation a few years back.<br /> when he got back his building was empty, completely. seems his business partner set him up and all the equipment had been loaded up and moved to japan while he was on vacation.<br /> he is now hustling 3 poor jobs trying to recover from bankruptcy and drives a wore out old buick century wagon and pays rent on a dump.<br /> does that make him stupid ?<br /> he did say he found out 2 things<br /> one is you can file all the lawsuits you wish and two is its impossible to get a japanese native served with court papers in japan if your american.
