Also, I dropped the noise on my suitcase generator by 3db, without adding a big box around it. Just get a couple cans of plasti-dip, and give the entire inside of the generator case a nice heavy coat. (have to completely tear the generator down to do it obviously) It makes a fairly noticeable difference, and once re-assembled, you can't tell anything is different, visually.

Great idea smokingcrater...I may just add it where it is easily applied...removable covers and the like..how well does it stick to plastic?...William

Here's the stuff that I used on the inside extensively on the exhaust side (inside the container...no cloth used) and inside the aluminum exhaust exit ducting...put down a coat with a brush...add a layer of fiberglass cloth...another coat...and so on until you reach 3 ...the outside will remain safe to the touch by doing so...it also provides some dampening of the exhaust..I've used it extensively in model jet building and temps easily reach 1200F+in their exhaust with no damage to surrounding areas...very good stuff for any heat prone area...roughly 20.00 a pint...there are many products available if you google it...this I've used and had it on hand...good stuff...William

Just a little update here with the cover...I made a few changes that should help with the safety of using my portable gen...I added another C/O detector to the cover at the intake side...hopefully this will catch any signs of C/O danger/station-wagon effect before it enters the cabin or rearward interior of the boat...there is also another 1 inside the cabin sleep area and Captains area...after the posting of the intake maybe getting blocked with a foreign object...I added a temp sensor with remote that is good for 165 ft...it records high's and low's for the day on the inside and outside of the cabin and resets every 24hrs so you can monitor temps inside the cover and compare...I put this in the cabin also, so you can see your inside gen cover temps at a glance...I'm recording temps now to compare with cover on or off...so far they seem to stay with-in 2 degree f...both of these items were less than 25.00...but should give a better piece of mind towards being safe and secure...I also added a universal type rope glass gasket to the exhaust cover to eliminate any heat transfer to the container itself...it was 4.99 at ace...put cosmetic covers over the intakes on the side...I also increased the intake air by a small margin and hid it's "holes" with a cover...4 rubber feet to support it once on ...and a nice gasket to seal it all around at the bottom...I'm getting it ready for final paint and install on the platform...it runs 5ooobtu's of a/c...frig...and ac convertors and hardly breaks idle...and quiet...William

Here's the Temp sender and C/O I used on the cover...the ones inside cabin/cockpit have ac/batt power...this one on the cover is only batt powered to keep it portable and removable...the temp sensor was located inside the cover about 2in from the exhaust end, and showed only 2 degree difference running all day 1/4 load...I see no heat issues at all...cover on or off it remains constant..the clear cover over the C/O was attached using a simple "Tape hinge" and secured down with a small piece of velcro...you can lift it and check your detector easily and often if needed...I've since added an alarm to the cover in case anyone was to lift it unknowingly to peek or possibly try to take it maybe...it was 10.00 at Radio Shack...the cover also protects your gen from the elements if rainy/stormy weather exists and running is needed...I haven't weighed it yet but it is very light and manageable...a great "do it yourself" with excellent results so far...William

Nice work! I don't need it for my boat but this might be great for my camper. I have 2 of those Honda's and they are amazing. I like your safety additions for use on the boat.

Yea Nate...they are amazing...used it this wk on beautiful Lake Murray in SC and what a joy it was to have ac current with noise at a min level..the added C/O detector worked well...the one that's added to the cover...never heard it beep until you started the main engine at idle speed...yea, it works for sure...never got it to make a peep with the gen only...even at full load...I installed 4 200 watt personal mini heaters...Bathroom...sleeping areas x 2...forward cabin area...kept the inside nice and cozy at mid to upper 30's during the nights, and the gen barely kicks above 1dle...I did add an electric pump to assist the gen with better fuel draw from the 100gl main tank/water separator, and plugged it into the 12v outlet so it only runs when the gens on...4 days nonstop and it never missed a beat...I'll post some pics of the mounted/finished cover...it worked great..I'm now in the process of readying/installing the AC..wait till you see this one...lol...a $75.00 5000btu window unit..you just need a few mods to make it work in most any cabin...needs no window either...I'll post it as I progress with installation also...Bill
